 Functional straightening of your teeth

Your teeth can be straightened to improve the functionality of your smile.

  1. Sometimes teeth straightening is done before major cosmetic dental work.
  2. Straighter teeth are cleaner teeth. Straightening your teeth can help prevent decay. Crooked teeth can make it harder for you to clean thereby having a troubling build-up of plaque and decay. In addition it will give you chronic bad breath or gum disease.
  3. Crooked teeth affect jaw alignment – Sleep Apnea and allergies is another reason to straighten your teeth. Improving the shape of your mouth and jaw can help improve these conditions.

The following are teeth straightening options:

The first two which is the clear aligner and dental veneers allow you to straighten your teeth without braces.

Clear aligner – This option can straighten your teeth within 11-16 weeks. Your dentist will need to analyse your teeth and depending on your individual case recommend the number of weeks that you need to keep it on for.

Dental veneers are another quick and easy alternative that can take 2-3 appointments to complete. Click here to learn more about dental veneers

Traditional braces are another option and a dentist will need to analyse your teeth  in order to check your bite. Traditional braces might be the right option if you have a strong overbite. Chat to your dentist about this option.

Dental Implants replace missing teeth

3 Quick Ways to Improve Your Smile 2

Dental Implants are the closest you can get to healthy teeth. They replace missing teeth permanently.

Dental implants act as a natural tooth (root being the implant) the tooth being the crown. In addition, you can laugh, smile, eat, chew and talk again.  Dental implants act like artificial tooth roots.

When dental implants are placed in your jawbone they bond with your natural bone. They are the strongest devices to replace missing teeth. They allow these teeth to feel, look and function like your natural teeth.

Implants are highly recommended by many dental associations as they keep the bone in your jaw healthy. Dental implants are one of the 3 quick ways to improve your smile.

Dental Veneers improve the appearance of your teeth

3 Quick Ways to Improve Your Smile

Veneers are thin covers placed over your teeth. They integrate naturally with your real teeth and therefore are a popular choice as dental veneers improve the appearance of your teeth.

If you have the following problems with your teeth then dental veneers might be an option:

  1. teeth that are stained and can’t be whitened by bleaching.
  2. chipped or worn teeth.
  3. crooked or misshapen teeth.
  4. uneven spaces or a large gap between the upper front teeth.

You can straighten and whiten your teeth quickly with veneers. It is quicker than having braces. It is also a more cost effective option.

Dental veneers are either made from porcelain or composite resin. Your dentist is the best person to decide on the material that will work for you.

Each type of veneer has its own benefits. For example, Porcelain veneers are strong and long lasting. They are more natural looking, and they do not stain easily. Composite veneers cost less. They are not as natural looking as porcelain veneers. Dental veneers are one of the 3 quick ways to improve your smile.

Teeth Whitening improves first impressions

teeth whitening improves first impressions

Teeth whitening is the most basic cosmetic procedure that almost everyone is doing today.

It is quick and easy and provides a more hygienic, precise look. Teeth whitening is usually done if you have badly stained teeth.

Stains could be caused for several reasons such as antibiotic use or eating teeth staining foods such as red wine, curry etc. A dental cleaning must be carried out first in order to remove debris, plaque etc and then the dental cleaning allows the teeth to take and adhere to your natural teeth.

Your teeth can be whitened up to 8 or 9 shades by a dentist because he is the only person who can do a safe and effective job when it comes to teeth whitening.

Tooth Loss Could Be Causing You Depression

Many people put their hands over their mouths if they are conscious about their smiles.

toothloss could be causing your anxiety and depression

Toy’s Dental Implant Case Study

When we originally saw Toy she couldn’t chew her food properly and was embarrassed to smile.

Her jawbone was shrinking due to the loss of teeth over the years and wearing dentures. We did a full smile makeover to improve her confidence and quality of life. This made her look years younger.

Toy had previously worn dentures that did not suit her face structure, age and colour of her skin.

Initially we did bone grafting to replace missing bone and then we placed dental implants to replace her missing teeth.

Toy’s case was a very complex one. By re-adjusting her bite, Toy is now able to chew properly and smile more confidently.

Toy was very happy with her final result. She cried tears of joy and couldn’t thank us enough. We are so happy to contribute to making society a better place.

Toy looked many years younger just by adding dental implants. You might ask how is this possible?

Missing teeth will result to sunken cheeks, which can make you look years older than your actual age. While you can’t necessarily see it, when you have gaps in between your teeth as a result of extraction, your jawbone will begin to shrink.

As a result, your cheeks will sag, and creases will form on your face. Dentures may fill in the gaps in your teeth, but they don’t actually address your shrinking jawbone. The only way to arrest the movement is through dental implants.

Dr Huson has placed in excess 1000 Dental Implants and has worked under celebrity dentist Dr Joe Oliver in the Harley Street region of London. You are guaranteed work that is of the highest quality. Dental Implants are an ideal, long term solution to replacing missing or damaged teeth.

The procedure can last a lifetime and there is no need for their removal in order to have your teeth cleaned.

Are Dental Implants Worth It?

Are dental implants worth it? There are a number of emotional, economical and functional factors to take into consideration when discussing this question.  Read more to find out if dental implants are worth it…

The pros of dental implants

Dental implants are really worth it due to:

Aesthetics – if you lose a tooth and go to your mirror to view it you will see how quickly your confidence can go from a 10 being highly confident all the way to 1 with no confidence.

Speech improvement – not forgetting the way you start pronouncing words as missing teeth can cause speech problems. Especially if they are toward the front.

Bone health – Dental implants stimulate your jawbone. Preserving your jawbone and making you look years younger unlike dentures.

You are able to bite and chew your food – you will also be unable to chew your food properly without dental implants. This could lead to bad nutrition. Bad nutrition comes into play when you are unable to chew hard foods such as meat or crispy vegetables.

Are dental implants really that worth it considering the price?

Dental implants last a lifetime unlike bridges and dentures. They actually work out far cheaper than bridges or dentures in the long term.

Dental implants are more cost effective in the long term unlike dentures or bridges. Dentures need to be changed every 5 years whereas implants last a lifetime. Bridges need to be changed every 10+ years. Implants basically change your life and give you an improved standard of living.

Unfortunately, bridges and dentures are outdated and an old fashioned option especially when it comes to the advanced technology today with dental implants.

Bridges are not good because it can decay the teeth on either side of the bridge. Patients with bridges are a higher risk for gum disease. Dental implants keep the bone in your jaw in place making you look 10 years younger unlike dentures.

This beautiful lady is Amanda. She came to us very unhappy about her teeth. Her teeth were worn down and over the years became worse. She also had an over-closed bite which meant that her lips and cheeks were “creased” because of the lack of muscle and skin support. This was because of her jaw position. Her teeth had worn right down because of years and years of being afraid of going to the dentist, being very nervous and embarrassed at the same time.

Dr Huson placed dental implants and re-aligned and repaired Amanda’s smile.

We also made a night guard for Amanda. This was to help protect her teeth from grinding while asleep. She comes for regular hygienist visits to help maintain that perfect healthy smile.

Amanda cried tears of joy at our offices and couldn’t believe how amazing her teeth turned out.

Another happy client of Silver Oaks Dental Clinic who is now enjoying the smile she was dreaming over for years!

Dental implants are definitely worth it owing to the durability, appearance and functionality. It is the best option to replace missing teeth in the long term.

How Long Do Dental Implants Last?

How long do dental implants last? The answer is: Dental implants last a lifetime if they are properly cared for.  In this article we discuss the life cycle of dental implants and the steps one should take to preserve dental implants.

Dental Implants should last a lifetime

1)You need to brush floss and mouth rinse twice daily.

2) Go for regular dental cleanings every 6 months.

Dental Implants are very technologically advanced today with better more sustainable materials that fit the jaw very well. So dental implants should last a lifetime.

A recent patient that came to @silveroaksdentalclinic from Zambia to get her dental implant treatment done was pleasantly surprised.

Dr Huson advised her on how to take care of her implants. He told her that they have a lifetime guarantee if she gets professionally cleanings by a dentist and brushes and flosses twice a day.

After weeks of doing research on the internet stella decided that we were the best cosmetic clinic she should choose. She flew down immediately and met with Dr Huson and his team.

how long do dental implants last

Stella was very unhappy with her smile for several reasons:

Firstly, she had worn her teeth down considerably over the years through grinding. Her teeth became very short and stubby due to this.

Secondly, Stella had a gummy smile which she disliked. This meant she showed more gum than teeth when smiling or talking.

Thirdly, she had lost a number of teeth and was chewing on her gums or not chewing her food at all. Due to the years of neglect her bite had changed shape and her teeth looked “irreparable.”

Dr Huson used Digital Smile Design to predict the treatment outcome before it was even started. This made Stella even more comfortable as she knew exactly what she was going to get.

Dr Huson’s solution for Stella included dental implantscrown lengtheningdental crowns, bridges  and veneers.

Stella’s dental implant procedure was fast, accurate and very comfortable

Dr Huson with the help of his highly skilled team opened her bite which changed her profile and smile line. Her smile was custom designed by our in house lab and computer simulations.

At the end of the procedure we gave Stella a night guard to wear so that she won’t grind her new teeth.

Stella was ecstatic about the final result. She could not believe how natural her teeth looked. Stella could bite and chew her food again and most importantly her self esteem improved considerably thereby living a better quality of life.
The treatment, once planned didn’t take a long time and proved to be fast, accurate and very comfortable with our pain free treatment.
Stella was very happy that she made the journey all the way to South Africa to get her teeth done at our clinic.

Do Dental Implants Hurt?

This article discusses the question that everyone gets worried about ‘Do dental implants Hurt?

There are many pain free sedation techniques that are available. After the procedure most people go to work the very next day. Painkillers are given to you so that pain will be minimal.

Will the dental implant procedure be painful?

We have different ways of making your experience as pleasant as possible. This includes Nitrous Oxide Sedation (happy gas), Intravenous Sedation, or General Anaesthesia.

Having a decayed tooth and toothache is far more painful than any implant procedure.

Inserting dental implants is an operation. The procedure seems frightening by inserting titanium screws into the bone. DON’T be scared. Dental implants do not hurt.

Dental Implants improve the quality of your life drastically

The improved quality of life after the procedure outweighs the thought of any temporary pain. You will be able to chew and bite your food and brush your teeth as normal. You can brush and floss like you would your natural teeth.

The American Academy Of Dentists encourages dental implants over dentures a dental implant procedure keeps the jawbone intact.

No need to remove and clean messy dentures

No need to remove messy dentures and clean them day and night. No need to go to the dentist every few years to get new dentures as the other ones have become loose. Most importantly you will be able to look years younger as the bone loss is minimal so it is like a free face lift.

This patient was very happy with her dental implant procedure @silveroaksdentalclinic

Do dental implants hurt

The above patient (Sandra had a full smile makeover @silveroaksdentalclinic. The patient came all the way from the USA to get her dental implant treatment done at Silver Oaks Dental Clinic.

The cost of the treatment was half the price at our dental clinic as compared to the USA. We also offered the highest quality in cosmetic dentistry as we used all international implant manufacturers.

The patient had previously worn out dentures that did not look aesthetically pleasing. She was so fed up of changing them every 5 years due to the loss of bone i.e gum size.

She had researched for several months on the internet before choosing Silver Oaks Dental Clinic.

Our good reviews and portfolio of work convinced her that Silver Oaks would be her final choice. Sandra walked out very happy with her new smile and regained confidence.

Dr Roy Richard-Huson went above the call of duty

According to her ‘Dr Huson went above the call of duty’. His emotional intelligence made him accurately predict exactly what she wanted at every step of the process.

According to Sandra, ‘Dr Huson’s meticulous attention to detail is what sets him apart.

Dental implant procedure on Sandra

Dr Huson’s solution for her teeth included bone grafting and dental implants.

Sandra had a thorough evaluation during the first consultation, including a:
• Comprehensive dental exam: A 3D scan was taken.
• Treatment plan: Her teeth was analysed and jawbone

A treatment plan was then given to Sandra based on how many teeth needed to be replaced and the condition of her jawbone.

It is often a better option to have your teeth replaced with dental implants rather than with dentures.

Dental implants keep the height of your jawbone because it keeps the bone stimulated.

A quote was then given to Sandra and explained in detail what it entails. Her second appointment was the dental implant procedure.

To control pain, anesthesia  was given to her during the procedure. Chat to Dr Huson about other pain free options.

Dental implant surgery is usually an outpatient surgery performed in stages:

•Sandra’s damaged tooth was removed and when there was not one present the implant was placed immediately
•The titanium implant was then placed in the bone and left to heal.

The final crown (tooth) can sometimes be placed at this stage but it would depend on the quality and quantity of your bone at the placement.

Are Dental Implants Affordable?

Dental implants are very affordable. Especially when you take into consideration the improved quality of life and the cost effectiveness in the long term.

The American Dental Association says that dental implants last the longest as compared to dental bridges and dentures. They can last a lifetime if they are properly taken care of.

We use world renowned dental implant manufacturers

You will be surprised at how cost effective Dental Implant quotations  are at Silver Oaks Dental Clinic even with internationally recognised manufacturers. We offer the best possible price given the high quality craftsmanship that goes into designing the implant.

Dental Implant Quotations at Silver Oaks Dental are cost effective

If two patients were to come in and get their teeth analysed and have a CBCT scan both patients will leave with two different treatment plans and quotes. Dental implant quotations depend on a number of factors, the number of dental implants one needs, the bone one has in their jaw as well as the shape and structure of the person’s teeth.

It also depends on the manufacturer that the patient chooses. We work with the top three dental implant manufacturers that are internationally recognised i.e Straumann, Nobel biocare and Megagen.

If you get cheap dental implant quotations that are too good to be true run away…. You know what they say you get what you pay for! so do NOT be fooled .

Dental Implants have to be done by specialists with several years of experience in placing dental implants and have the qualification to back it up. At the end of the day inserting dental implants is an operation that deals with the nervous system. Only an expert should be inserting dental implants with several years of experience and expertise.

Below Dr Roy Richard Huson @silveroaksdentalclinic placed this patient’s dental implants. This patient came all the way from the US.

are dental implants affordable

The true cost of dentures in the long term are more expensive

When you first look at your dentures or bridges quote compared to a dental implant quote you will be pleasantly surprised at the dentures/bridges quote. Even though the costs for dentures and bridges are a lot less in the short term. They actually cost a lot more in the long term. You need to change your dentures every 5 years.

Initial Cost Vs Total Costs – Dentures require you to change them every 5 years with a dentist due to the change in bone structure and the more bone you lose the more the denture won’t fit. You will also spend more money on fixtures and adhesives with dentures. Dental implants are more affordable in the long term.

The American Academy of Dentistry suggests that people get dental implants rather than dentures

The American Academy of Dentistry suggests people get dental implants rather than dentures. So that they can maintain the bones in their jaw and not lose them over time due to no root in their teeth. It is the healthiest option possible.

The Convenience Costs – Dental Implants are very convenient from an emotional perspective. You will never have to be scared of your implants falling off unlike dentures and you don’t have to clean your implants or soak them overnight in a container. You can brush as normal like you would your natural teeth.

A recent dental implant case above where a patient came from Saudi Arabia to see Dr Roy Richard-Huson.  He came to us hoping to get the smile he always dreamed of and needed to have it done professionally.

He felt very embarrassed to smile and very uncomfortable when he use to eat.

His dentures would fall out and felt very embarrassed. He lost most of his teeth over the years and the ones that he had were broken.

Klaus had several implants done at Silver Oaks Dental Clinic. Dr Huson first took before pics so he could analyse Klaus’s teeth using Digital Smile Design. Custom made models were designed for Klaus by on our on-site lab.

Straighten Teeth Without Braces

Due to the recent technological advancements,  you can now straighten your teeth without braces.

You can now straighten your teeth without braces in less than 4 months on average. It is more cost effective than braces and saves one the hassle and embarrassment of the metal braces showing in your mouth.

We have the latest technology in Cosmetic Dentistry

We use the latest technology called Digital Smile Design.

Dr Huson spends a lot of his time updating his qualifications and going on several courses on Digital Dentistry regularly.

Dr Huson has worked in the Harley Street Region of London in the UK where he dealt with many international clientele and perfected the art of shaping and making teeth look as natural and straight as possible.

We also have an in house lab that helps with designing your teeth so that you can straighten your teeth without braces quickly.

straighten teeth without braces 1

straighten teeth without braces 2

There are three methods in order to straighten your teeth without braces

The first method is Dental veneers

This is the quickest method as it can take less than 3 weeks to get done. So if you have less time on your hands and would like to straighten your teeth quickly then veneers is the way to go.

The second method is clear braces (Inman Aligner or Invisalign)

This might take around 9 to 12 weeks or more for normal procedures and visits every 2 weeks to the dentist to tighten the mouth guard.

This is also a quicker solution to straighten your teeth rather than traditional braces. Although the disadvantage is that it takes longer than dental veneers to get your teeth straightened. It is also more time consuming with additional visits to the dentist.

When the dentist analyses your teeth he needs to see if this procedure can be done on your teeth. This procedure can only straighten your teeth and not correct a strong overbite.

The third method is traditional braces

This method is the most costly method and you will most probably need to wear braces for over 2 years in order to get your teeth straightened. The look with metal braces in your mouth is also NOT aesthetically pleasing. You will need traditional braces if you have a strong overbite. You will need a dentist to analyse your teeth and give you the best recommendation.

The fastest and most cost effective method  to straighten your teeth without braces is Dental Veneers.

However, you still need to chat to your dentist and see if this solution will work for you.

straighten teeth 2

Below is a method of both dental veneers and the clear aligner that was used on a recent patient @silveroaksdentalclinic.

When Sinothando came to us she wanted a quick solution to her long term problem . She wanted to reduce the gaps between her teeth and get them straightened without any long procedures such as braces.

She also had peg laterals. In dentistry this refers to an anomaly affecting her lateral teeth (Upper second Incisors) causing her teeth to look abnormally small and cone shaped compared to being rectangular in shape.

The solution for sinothando was simple orthodontics to pull the two front teeth together thereby straightening them without braces.

Veneers were made to reshape the lateral teeth, again it was a solution to straighten teeth without braces.

She also had minimal surgery called a Frenectomy to relax the muscle in her upper lip which causes the formation of the huge gap in the middle of her teeth.

The biggest advantage of Sinothando’s procedure is that she didn’t lose any tooth structure. Sinothando loves her new teeth and loves to take photographs of herself showing of her new look. Her family say it has made her look more sophisticated and neat. We are very happy that we have helped her regain her confidence.

Medical and Dental Tourism in South Africa

Medical and dental tourism in South Africa is growing exponentially. Mainly due to the advancement in medical infrastructure and the exchange rate.

Thanks to South Africa’s leading position as a global medical and dental tourism destination, medical tourism is one of the fastest growing – and therefore most important and priority-worthy sub-sectors of South Africa’s already booming tourism industry.

This is according to South African Tourism, who notes that the potential for this sector to grow is significant, sensational and still ‘untapped’ despite ferocious and phenomenal growth in the last few years.

At Silver Oaks Dental Clinic we have certainly seen the effects of this growth. Because we partner with several safari and similar providers, we are able to help you with a full-service bouquet when it comes to your dental tourism needs in South Africa.

Medical and Dental Tourism in South Africa 3

What makes South Africa such an tour de force in medical tourism globally?

Research by a tourism specialist department in FNB, one of the big five retail banks in South Africa and frequent winner of global banking accolades for its world-leading electronic banking engineering and breakthroughs, ascribes the country’s leading position in worldwide medical tourism to the following factors:

South African medical and dental qualification, training and professional body admission standards are on a par with, and in some cases higher and more stringent, than in foreign countries. As a result, South African dentists and doctors are sought after in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand in particular.

The South African currency means foreigners get exceedingly good value for their medical and dental procedures, while the integrity of adherence to the best of global standards remains in place

The country has great infrastructure. Whether by road or air, the infrastructure is mostly well-maintained and sign posted. The urban metropolises are modern, vibrant and international with a uniquely South African flavour.

The food and amenities on offer in general are highly palatable and pleasing to international travellers.
There is an abundance of sightseeing options and experiences.

Access to neighbouring countries such as Mozambique, Botswana and Namibia is quick and effortless, and under two hours away by plane depending where in South Africa travellers find themselves.

English is widely spoken and understood everywhere, as are foreign accents. This is critical when travellers undertake dental tourism in South Africa. There are 11 official languages but English is the language of commerce, work and parliamentary proceedings.

Medical technology is on a par with what can be found in the rest of the world. South Africa is no stranger to medical innovation either, with Dr Chris Barnard having pioneered the first heart transplant in Cape Town’s Groote Schuur Hospital.

Medical and Dental Tourism in South Africa

The impact of dental tourism in South Africa

South African Tourism takes medical as well as dental tourism extremely seriously because of what it is already contributing to the local economy, what vast potential it still has and the treacle down effect to the rest of the tourism industry.

Figures show that the average medical tourist spends an average of 6 days in South Africa.

As a result, there are numerous gains for many tourism and tourism-related touchpoints. This means revenue traction for formal and informal tour operators, the hospitality industry and accommodation services, retail, safari and environmental attractions, the transport sector, food, catering and beverage services, and spas and wellness centres.

As a medical tourist destination, South Africa has it all

Most medical tourists to South Africa stay a few days more than they need in order to recuperate, statistics show, because the country as a destination encompasses so much to experience.

The spas and wellness centres combine healing techniques from around the world. Whether it’s tai chi or traditional western therapies those coming for dental tourism in South Africa are seeking, they’ll be sure to find it.

As for wildlife and safari’s, the country is home to the Big 5. Besides lion, cheetahs, leopards, elephants and hippos, there are incredible and rare game and bird species at many sights.

The natural splendour of the country is also unrivalled. At our spacious and stylish practice at Silver Oaks Dental Clinic, you will find technology and techniques that are ahead in times.

We are the leaders in Cosmetic Dentistry

  • The minimum requirement for a dentist to qualify in South Africa is a 5-year degree. It is a specialist degree which also involves core practical training components. Thereafter, specialisation is required for fields.

  • The medical tourist experience on a whole is first-class – we have partnered with several game and safari lodges to make your trip supremely comfortable, exciting and memorable
  • The exchange rate versus the pound, euro and US dollar and Australian dollar has always been and remains highly favourable.

The contribution to the local economy is becoming more substantial by the year, with dental tourism to South Africa remaining on an increasing trajectory.
  • South African Tourism has therefore committed itself to continue stakeholder engagement to provide the best experience to medical and dental tourists.
  • A key focus is to remind stakeholders that pricing has to remain competitive if the industry is to keep enjoying phenomenal growth.

The cost of dental implants in South Africa

There is no fixed quotable cost per tooth implant as it not only varies from dentist to dentist, but depends on the amount of work required for each person. That said, as with everything, the best quality does come with a bit of a premium and our quality assured best dental implants abroad do too – but it also comes with a money back, 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Mini implants cost less than full implants

Usually work on the lower jaw costs more because:

○ This is more difficult to access than the upper jaw, so the procedure itself takes longer.

○ The procedure also takes longer because the nerves in this area are intricate so dentists have to proceed very carefully.

If like us, your professional has specifically studied further to specialise in tooth replacement procedures, this takes your dental provider up to the level of a prosthodontist or oral surgeon. Higher rates apply to dental specialists as they do to medical, legal or architectural specialists

The upside is that although the initial cost may be higher, it is largely a once-off cost. Dental implants are permanent. Unlike bridges or dentures, they do not need to be replaced.

Dental implants per tooth start at R8000 upwards. The average price for dental implants, as fitted in South Africa, is about R 9000 to R15000 per tooth when sampling a high number of dentists. It is simply not possible or realistic to pinpoint a finite price range for the reasons mentioned above.

What is the treatment sequence for dental implants?

We define ourselves by giving you a highest quality product and experience backed by superior skill and extensive local and international experience. To this end, when you visit us for your dental implants, these are the steps you can expect:

We will plan and map out the extent of the work required and make a formal diagnosis.

We may then have to build up the bone if it is too brittle to accept an incision straight away

Next comes the actual implant insertion. Then, we give the jaw bone time to heal.

Your final denture or visible part of the replacement tooth is now fitted.

We like to see you back for a final check up and to provide you with care instructions.

Dental implants – the advantages

Once your implants are fitted you’ll leave knowing you have a replacement tooth, not a prosthesis. Here are the main advantages and why this treatment is so popular:

  1. Your implant looks, feels and functions like a real tooth. There is little to no impact on your speech, social interaction or ability to chew. People with bridges or dentures often feel self-conscious when smiling or laughing.
  2. There will be no subsequent time out from life or work. Your implants do not need to be refitted or remoulded. There consequently also won’t be another adjustment period.
  3. The cost of your implant is fixed and finalised. As there are no additional procedures there are no additional costs.
  4. A dental implant aligns perfectly to your existing facial features, unlike some other prosthesis. Aesthetically, the implant won’t result in you looking drawn or sunken, especially in the cheek area. This sometimes happens in people who have worn dentures for a long time.
  5. Once the tooth is fitted, your discomfort levels should return to normal. With other procedures, there are often intermittent periods of discomfort, even when the best dentures or bridges are fitted.

We look forward to fitting your dental implants and ensuring that you leave ready to love and live to your full capacity once more!

Dental Implants VS Dentures

In this article we compare Dental Implants vs Dentures. We will also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of dentures and dental implants. Dental implants are becoming a more popular option than dentures or bridges.

Technology has allowed us today to be more cost efficient and effective. The dental industry is no different.

Dental Implants are a more cost effective and a more efficient long term solution to missing or decayed teeth.

Dentures are more expensive in the long term

Dentures seem like a more cost effective solution for the short term but considering that dentures need to be changed every 5 years due to the change in gum shape it is actually more expensive in the long term when comparing them to dental implants. Although the quality of dentures have improved over the years they are not an ideal option. Partial dentures might promote infection and decay especially on the surrounding healthy teeth.

Dentures can fall out when talking

Dentures can shift when speaking and talking and even fall out causing embarrassment. You will need to clean them externally. Whereas with dental implants they act as natural teeth so you just need to brush your teeth as normal and they are permanently fixed to your teeth.

If your gums are very unhealthy and you have a weak jaw then dentures might be your only option. Dentures can cause damage to adjacent healthy teeth and gums making the nearby areas more susceptible to decay. You are also more likely to suffer speech problem with dentures.

dental implants vs dentures

The patient above underwent a dental implant procedure with Dr Roy Richard Huson. You can see the amazing smile transformation.

Dental implants act as natural teeth

Dental Implants look natural just like your normal healthy teeth. The comfort, peace of mind and confidence makes them an unmatched rival to dentures. They can replace missing or decayed teeth and act as natural teeth that are surgically inserted into your jaw. They are permanent so you can brush your teeth as normal and are not removable making it an ideal option for all patients.

Dentists prefer dental implants as they provide a healthier smile

It is also a long term solution as they can last a lifetime provided you brush and floss twice a day. Dentists prefer dental implants as they provide a more comfortable, natural looking smile. They will not damage surrounding teeth and prevent decay of surrounding teeth unlike dentures.

There are several treatment options such a dentures and dental implants. Dentures are cheaper in the short term.

You can bite and chew your food with dental implants

Dental Implants are more expensive in the short term but works out cheaper in the long term. They are permanently fixed as natural teeth so that you can chew biltong or that yummy steak like your normal natural teeth. As the saying goes you get what you pay for and Dental Implants is no exception.

Dental Implants start from R8500 and for the abutment and dental crown is roughly around R9000. So you are looking at +-R20 000 per tooth. It can get cheaper depending on the number of implants you do and it also depends on the manufacturer you choose. We work with world renowned manufacturers.

The largest benefit of Dental Implants is that you can bite and chew food again, smile and laugh with confidence and not worry whether they will slip or even fall out.

Here is a quick table comparing the two:

A Dental Implant Vs A Dental Bridge

To replace lost teeth you have the option of adding a dental implant or a dental bridge. Which option will work for you more? A dental implant VS a dental bridge? This article discusses this question.

Please note: the best person to offer advice on these options is your dentist. He will take an x-ray and analyse your teeth then give you a treatment solution. His advice supersedes this article. The best solution will depend on your dentist’s analysis and the patients budget and time constraints.

The pic below shows a dental implant vs a dental bridge

a dental implant vs a dental bridge

dental implant vs dental bridge (2)

The patient above had dental implants placed at Silver Oaks Dental Clinic.

To replace lost teeth you have the option of adding a dental implant or a dental bridge. Before dental implants most people used a bridge to replace lost or missing teeth.

These days it is easier to replace your teeth with a dental implant.

Firstly, you need to file down adjacent teeth if you need a bridge whereas with a dental implant you don’t need to do that.

Advantages and disadvantages of a dental implant vs a dental bridge

The cost of dental implants are more expensive in the short term but in the long term it works out cheaper.

Depending on your budget it might be more viable in the short term to get some of your teeth done with dental implants and if a number of teeth on one side needs to be filled then a bridge might be a better option.

Dental Implants are a better option if you have individual or missing teeth.

If you have big gaps on either side then it might be better to add a dental bridge.

dental bridge might be a more destructive option. In other words the adjacent teeth need to be prepared by removing most of the enamel in order to fabricate the bridge.

The advantages and disadvantages of both procedures should be discussed with your dentist. As he will first need to analyse your teeth and then suggest a treatment option with you.

Your ability to keep your mouth clean will be better with a dental implant.  You can brush and floss as normal with an implant as it acts as a natural tooth.

Dental Bridges are a little more complicated as it is cemented or ‘fixed in the mouth’  which involves at least three crowns connected together to fill the space of the missing tooth. That design creates challenges so you will have to brush meticulously.

Dental Implants are more durable than bridges.

Dental Implants can last a lifetime whereas dental bridges last around +- 10 years.

With regards to the aesthetics both options provide amazing aesthetics.

When could a dental bridge be a more viable option?

  • If you already have crowns on either side than adding a 3 unit bridge might be more viable as this would result in no surgery and all three teeth would match
  • When neighbouring teeth have large fillings or structural damage then you will need crowns in the future so a dental bridge might be a better option in this case.
  • When you have periodontal disease or when a bone graft is not possible due to a defect than a bridge might be an option.

A Case Study on a Patient from New Zealand

This article discusses a case study on a patient from New Zealand.

A sweet patient (Miles) came all the way from New Zealand to perfect his smile at Silver Oaks Dental Clinic.

A case study on a patient from New Zealand

Miles was embarrassed to smile and had limited time in South Africa. Dr Huson had to find a quick fix solution.

Dr Huson placed dental veneers on Mile’s teeth.

Porcelain veneers are ideal for patients who have discoloured, uneven, irregularly shaped, worn down, chipped, gaps and misaligned teeth. We had lengthened Miles’s teeth and straightened the four front teeth with dental veneers.

He also completed the teeth whitening treatment to brighten the appearance of all of his teeth. This helped create a more consistent natural colour throughout.

We use the highest quality in Porcelain veneers  therefore prefer Emax veneers above Lumineers and composite veneers as the look and feel is more realistic and aesthetically pleasing.

We also find that they last a very long time over 25 years to a lifetime if they are properly cleaned and maintained.

Porcelain Veneers Procedure at Silver Oaks Dental Clinic

The benefit with veneers is that it whitens and straightens your teeth quickly and pain free. You only need three appointments.

Miles had looked through some pictures from the internet to see the look that he prefered.

He discussed the various options with Dr Huson. Dr Huson then designed his smile on the computer (Digital Smile Design) showing him before and after pics even before the treatment was started. went for something that made the appearance of his smile more apparent and face structure more prominent.

Our efficient lab technician Costa designed custom made temporary veneers which Miles wore it to see if he liked them. When Miles was happy with the temporary ones, we replicated that into the final permanent version.

Miles came back for another appointment where we fitted and cemented the veneers using a resin cement. His teeth were prepared using custom made templates which ensured the minimal amount of tooth loss.

Miles was very happy with the results and the transformation was dramatic and immediate. That is the huge benefit of Veneers in that it is quick and cost effective. Dental veneers don’t require months of adjustment appointments. The entire process took 3 visits.

Dr Huson has placed in excess 1000 Veneers and has worked under celebrity dentist Dr Joe Oliver in the Harley Street region of London. You are guaranteed work that is of the highest quality. Whether you have gaps, overcrowded, deep stained or misshapen teeth, Dental Veneers can be an excellent and conservative way of correcting your smile.

Dentistry and Dental Costs in South Africa

Expect world-class dentistry at a fraction of the cost in South Africa. Dentistry and dental costs in South Africa are value for money compared to the rest of the world. We have excellent medical infrastructure at almost half the price.

There are two regulatory bodies – the South African Dental Association (SADA) and the Dental Therapy Association of South Africa. These bodies are part of the World Health Organisation so that South Africa stays abreast with top standards on oral hygiene and surgery.

Because of a favourable exchange rate making dentals costs in South Africa very affordable.

Dental tourism has grown exponentially in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.

It is estimated that dental costs in South Africa for world-class procedures are one-tenth to one-sixth less expensive than in Europe, Australia or the United States. Most of our patients at Silver Oaks Dental Clinic come from countries such as the USA, UK, Germany, France, Australia and Canada.

SADA (South African Dental Association) is extremely well regulated and  governs dentistry in South Africa as well as matters pertaining to dental costs in South Africa.

It’s core functions are:

1. Communication –  Members are kept up-to-date with seminars, dental education, jobs calendar events and more. It also keeps open the lines of communication between the public and the dental body

2. Intellectual input –  It assists the profession to be NHI-ready – dental care at government grassroots levels are not as high as in the public sector due to a lack of funding, but is considerably higher than at the same level in other countries. The adoption of an NHI-like system is being mooted for a phased roll-out. It will essentially mean that private dentists will have to provide subsidised care to those within a certain radius who cannot afford it.

It has been argued that this will raise private dental costs in South Africa. It is not foreseen though that costs will ever rise so sharply as to affect dental tourism. It will not phase out private care. Other roles here include monitoring statutory gazettes and circulars, submitting SADA input to government and briefing dentists, and bringing dentistry into industry debates and meetings.

3. Regulating private and public cover – Again, this has implications for dental costs in South Africa. Private care cannot become a law unto itself. The standards, equipment and techniques are superb and dentists deserve great rates. But if left unchecked, as with any industry, the costs could spiral to such an extent that even medical aids or medical insurance would not be able to keep up. The role here is advisory more than regulatory, with legal input also given.

4. Advocacy and representation – SADA puts the democratically reached opinions of members to government bodies, NGOs, the public, organisations and agencies. It gives dentists a united voice in influencing public policy, and formulating and promoting sound National Oral Health Policy.

5. Legal and ethical advice  –  Members are kept up-to-date with health-related regulations and other important legal and ethical matters

6. Public awareness –  SADA helps drive awareness of dentistry in South Africa and abroad. Locally, the public is encourage to treat dental care as they would care for the rest of their body, and to get checkups regularly. The public is made aware of how the industry subscribes to only the highest standards of excellence.

7. Education – SADA oversees educational grants, webinars, workshops, further training and a fully accredited scientific dental journal, the SA Dental Journal.

dentistry and dental costs in south africa

Dental procedures and practices offered in South Africa

You can get any routine, orthodontic, paediatric, surgical or cosmetic dental procedure in South Africa that you could anywhere else in the world. When it comes to cosmetic dentistry in South Africa, the biggest demand from a tourism point of view is for veneers and smile makeovers and dental implants.

You cannot buy any illegal dental services in South Africa. The industry is tightly regulated.

Dental Tourism in South Africa works both ways

There are over 4 500 registered dentists in South Africa who are able to cater to the needs of the ever-expanding dental tourism industry, so there is no skills shortage. South Africa has become a preferred dental tourism provider because patients who may have gone elsewhere for cheaper dentistry, found that there were risks involved.

These are

● Bleeding gums
● Loose implants
● Ulcers
● Cysts
● Infections

In the long run, these risks can erase any cost savings. However, the standards of dentistry in South Africa along with the affordable costs of dentistry in South Africa have remained in tact. There have been no reported cases of medical tourism ‘fails’ in this country. Practitioners know that should something like that happen, they would be struck off the roll. It would affect their livelihoods permanently.

State of the art medical care received in most of the country includes:

Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC)
The Wand – a pain-free, scientifically computed anesthetic injection system.

Becoming a dentist in South Africa is difficult

It’s not surprising that standards of excellence pervade – the route to becoming a dentist in South Africa is tough and a five-year degree minimum is required. Training and further exams and board exams are required, depending on the speciality chosen. Also, as per SADA, all members are required to undergo continuous learning and upskilling.

This has also made local dentists incredibly valuable abroad, with many having been actively recruited by European countries in the past, after passing relevant foreign board exams. This means dental tourism works both ways with local dentists leaving to solidify experience abroad or being actively lured into short-term or other contracts abroad.

Dr Roy Huson has worked in the UK under celebrity dentist Dr Joe Oliver. His skills and qualifications set him apart.

So good is the reputation of dentistry in South Africa, that most medical aid insurers operating in the dental tourism field are happy to cover in whole or in part dental costs in South Africa. You can enjoy your dental experience in South Africa without fear or hesitation in comfort and privacy. The country is a haven of modern facilities, safari and other adventure or holiday experiences, and no communication barrier exists.

Prices for dental implants start from R12 000 implant placement and can go up to R44 000 per tooth

Porcelain Veneers in South Africa

Veneers are ‘teeth’ made we make to emulate each patient’s natural teeth. If you’re looking for for porcelain veneers in South Africa, we’d love to be your dental service provider. Veneers look real and are for you if you have chipped, cracked, crooked or damaged teeth, or if you’re looking to close a gap between your teeth.

Sometimes, teeth also do not respond properly to teeth whitening procedures. You could consider fitting veneers instead.

We have a superb track record of fitting porcelain veneers in South Africa. We use a dental glue to apply the new layer of tooth to the front and back of your original teeth. The result is life-like tooth exteriors or veneers that enhance your smile in a way that’s not forced or artificial.

A Dental Consultation with Silver Oaks Dental Clinic

As with all cosmetic dentistry procedures, we’ll begin with a consultation. Tell us what exactly is bugging you so we can be sure veneers are the correct and best option. The better we understand your desired outcomes, the better we can align expectations to actual results at the end of the day.

It is not all that useful to want to emulate a certain celebrity’s smile. Each person’s mouth is different. We also have to make sure that your underlying tooth is healthy and capable of having thin layers of porcelain bonded to it.

During this consultation for your porcelain veneers in South Africa, we’ll begin with a smile analysis. From this, we can map the steps we’d like to follow in fitting your veneers. Then we’ll proceed to do cosmetic imaging, so we can project your new smile onto you. In other words, we can show you what you’ll look like with your new smile before you actually proceed.

Top Cosmetic Dentistry At Incredibly Competitive Prices

How porcelain veneers are made

Several thin ceramic layers are compressed and compiled which replace your original tooth enamel. Before we can apply your veneer, we need to remove a thin layer of your tooth enamel. This is so it fits on your tooth exactly without protruding and irritating your gum line. Not placing an exact fit will also affect tooth function.

When fitting your porcelain veneers in South Africa, we use an industry best bond. This bond is critical to ensure your veneer stays in place. We’ll place light-sensitive resin between your original tooth and the veneer, and then harden it with a UV curing light.

It is important to remember that veneers are not reversible. They can be adjusted and new ones can be fitted, but you can never quite return to your original tooth.

No-prep veneers

When you come to us for your porcelain veneers in South Africa, it may be that you’re looking for minimal preparation veneers. As always, we will assess whether this is a viable option for you before proceeding. Many people are tempted to go the no-prep route by default, but we always have to consider the long-term effect of any treatment on our patient. This is especially true of medical tourist patients, who may not be able to return to us specifically for interval check-ups.

With no-prep veneers, we don’t have to remove as much enamel from the front of your teeth. This means that veneers can often be fitted quicker and with less ‘down’ time.

Maintaining your dental veneers

Veneer aftercare is important. Brush and floss them as you would your natural teeth. We suggest using a toothpaste that is not gritty or too abrasive chemically.

We need a follow-up consultation with you after the procedure – come back to us after a few days on your leisure break. We need to see how your mouth is handing the new ‘intruder’ and may recommend a night guard if, for example, we feel that you are biting your teeth.

Make sure to return to your own dentist to properly look after the veneers. They should preferably be polished with a special paste so they remain in premium pearly white condition.

Dental Tourism

At Silver Oaks, we are proud to be a standout surgeon and safari destination thanks to our time-compacting, cutting-edge technology, vast cosmetic dental experience both locally and abroad .

South Africa has left its medical mark on the world

Although the world first took notice when Christiaan Barnard performed the first heart transplant in the world at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town in 1967, this was not the last of the medical marvels to come from the world’s best country for dental tourism:
● In December 2014, urologist Andre van der Merwe and plastic surgeon Frank Graewe, both from South Africa, performed the world’s first successful penis transplant.
● South African-American virologist and physician Max Theiler developed a yellow fever vaccine in 1937, and this bagged him the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1951.
● In 1979, Allan McLeod Cormack and Godfrey Hounsfield were rewarded with the 1979 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work on X-ray computed tomography. This was the invention of the CAT scan.

Of course, South Africa as the best country for dental tourism has also been responsible for a slew of top technological innovations, with the following being a handful of highlights:

● In 1996, Vodacom was the first network to introduce prepaid airtime and debit the amounts in real time for customer accounts. This was a gamechanger in the mobile phone industry worldwide.
● The invention of the SASWITCH ATM machine was also a global gamechanger. For the first time, it allowed a banking card user to draw money from a machine not affiliated to his or her bank.
● In 1995, billionaire Mark Shuttleworth founded Thawte Consulting which revolutionised digital certificates and digital security. It was acquired by VeriSign in 1999 for $575 million in one of the biggest tech transactions of the time.
● TESLA founder and PayPal co-founder Elon Musk, who recently launched a TESLA Roadster into space, was born and schooled in South Africa.

South Africa is a safari leader

As for tourism itself, South Africa is a safari industry leader, and the best country for dental tourism in Africa and beyond. South Africa offers any kind of leisure experience you could want from unmatchable by-the-sea escapades, adventure and extreme adventure travel, cosmopolitan candy for the traveller and more.

Throw in a favourable rand-foreign currency exchange rate, and the finest of cosmetic dental treatments and Instagram-worthy holidays are available at highly affordable rates.

South Africa is officially recognised by the SADC as a leader in medical tourism, and the best best country for dental tourism. The best of healthcare facilities and vacations unrivalled anywhere in the world continue to draw health tourists to Silver Oaks from the US, Australia, Germany, Italy, Britain, Netherlands and other parts of Europe.

dental tourism 2

Why is SA regarded as the best country for dental tourism and medical vacations?

Some of the many reasons include

● Urban South Africa offers a modern and high-tech living, cosmopolitan, and medical experience for medical travellers.
● Medical tourists can expect to find highly trained doctors and dentists working in modern, accredited hospitals and clinics with cutting-edge equipment.
● Thanks to the weakness of the rand, hundreds of medical procedures are available at a comparatively low cost. Travellers pay roughly a third of the cost for an equivalent procedure in the UK.
● The natural beauty is unparalleled meaning recovery couldn’t be in more scenic conditions.
● There is no language barrier as English is widely spoken, and as a mother tongue in many instances.
● Travellers from Europe, the UK and Africa at large experience very little jetlag, making the journey to here a pleasant one.

A leading reputation as the best dental implants abroad

At Silver Oaks, we’ve cemented our place as the provider of the best dental implants abroad, thanks to the many word-of-mouth referrals from overseas customers and a unique money-back guarantee.

Dental implants – do you need them?

Dental implants are the closest thing to replacing your real teeth. They are not held in place, unlike dentures or bridges. We follow international best practice and place metal ‘holders’ beneath your gums into the jawbone. These holders fuse with your jawbone and become the ‘roots’ for your tooth.

Dental implants – two approaches

As the best dental implants abroad we will only work with world renowned manufacturers so that should you bite into anything hard and damage your implant the parts are then widely available and you dont have to place the dental implant from scratch again.

We do not proceed without assessing your jaw structure and needs, and discussing these with you. In some cases, we may advise on a different treatment such as a bridge, although this is the exception and we will only deviate from a treatment sought for very specific reasons.

What we do advise as responsible providers of the best dental implants abroad, is that implants are risky if your jawbone is brittle or damaged.

You need to have enough bone so that the implants last over 25 years. We will assess your teeth with a CT scan and make sure that you have enough bone and advise various options further.

Dental implants – advantages

● When providing you with the best dental implants abroad, we ensure that the end result looks, feels and functions like a natural tooth.
● You will not have to remove anything or make any adjustments when speaking, chewing or eating.
● This is a one-off procedure, so you may as well come on safari while you have the best dental implants abroad done. There are no post-operative adjustments or replacement needs every few short years.
● The implants will fit the shape of your face and you don’t have to worry about the likes of ‘dental pull’ on your cheeks.

We hope you will join the many who have had the best dental implants abroad fitted with us!

Overseas Dental Packages

Wear your winning smile with confidence

Overseas Dental Packages are much cheaper than dental packages in countries such as the US, Europe and Australia. You are able to go on safari and get your dental treatment done simultaneously if you choose South Africa as a destination.

Cosmetic dental packages are no longer thought of as an indulgence but something that’s almost a necessity.

Science has shown that when you can’t be all smiles, this severely impedes your confidence. It inhibits your ability to socialise – whether at work or at home – and can affect your very sense of well-being and belonging. Need to whiten your stained teeth, fill your gaps with implants or fix those chipped edges with veneers but worried about the cost?

Not only do we have a range of payment options that may suit your pocket and mitigate against forking out a one-off outlay, medical financing is also available. Many of our local patients go this route to cover the medical aid shortfall.

If you’re an overseas client though, our leading practice is ideal – we offer cutting-edge, money-back guaranteed overseas dental packages. Get the latest in global dentistry and dental technology at the hands of an incredibly experienced team at a fraction of the cost. The rand-dollar and rand-pound exchange is likely to put you in a position to afford treatment, even if you’d never considered going overseas for top dental treatments as an option before. Why continue to suffer in silence? Speak to us about our popular overseas dental packages.

World Renowned Expert

overseas dental packages

We pride ourselves on being a leading destination of choice for overseas dental packages. To this end, we use only the safest, best practice world-leading technology and procedures at our practice. Our leading dental surgeons have successfully performed hundreds of implants, veneer and teeth-whitening procedures.

Principal dentist Dr Roy Richard Huson earned his advanced dental stripes in a practice in Cambridge in the UK in 1996, after having graduated with a Bachelor’s in Dental Science from the University of Stellenbosch, a top-rated South African University. His academic endeavours didn’t end there though – subsequently he has gone on to attain post-graduate qualifications in specialised cosmetic dentistry in London. This is part of the reason we can say with confidence that our Silver Oaks practice represents one of the top overseas dental packages money can buy in terms of expertise, convenience and experience.

By 2008, thanks to the high regard for this work in Cambridge, Dr  Roy Richard Huson was invited to join one of the top cosmetic dental practices in the Harley Street area of London. It is this same practice which was home to popular BBC programme 10 Years Younger. Dr Roy Richard Huson returned to South Africa in 2010, where he now leads local innovation at his Silver Oaks practice.

We’re proud that our Silver Oaks practice is one of the few locally to offer advanced technological techniques such as digital dental imagery. Book your overseas dental packages knowing that we can show you the results of an elective treatment without so much as having to touch your mouth and gums, for added peace of mind. We are able to digitally scan in and project to you how your mouth, smile and jawline would look post-procedure.

Other advanced digital technologies used in our practice include CAD-CAM, a CEREC 3D laser scanner and an MXCL milling unit to create same-day smiles and crowns. Doctor Richard Huson  are members of various local and international dental councils, bodies, advisory boards and organisations.

Veneers Overseas

Overseas dental packages 6These are artificial ‘teeth’ which we make to resemble each patient’s natural teeth. If you’re looking for overseas dental packages for veneers, please consult us. Veneers are a realistic looking and marvelous solution for chipped, cracked, crooked or damage teeth, or if you’re looking to close a gap between your teeth. We’ve done hundreds of these procedures. A dental adhesive is used to apply the new layer of tooth to the front and back of your original teeth.

Inlays and Onlays Overseas

Inlays and Onlays are another dental procedure to consider when exploring overseas dental packages. These are a great alternative to fillings. Inlays, or inner ‘fillings’, are used when there is enough of the teeth cusp intact. If not, onlays are applied to the entire external surface of the tooth. Together, inlays and onlays prevent your teeth from any further damage. They are applied using an advanced dental ‘glue’.

Composite bonding Overseas

If you’re looking for overseas dental packages, this is one of the least expensive aesthetic procedures you can have done to your teeth to help with discolouration or damage. The decay and discolouration is removed from your teeth and in its place we fit the bonding, which resembles tooth enamel. We’ll then sculpt it into place and use light technology to whiten this new ‘enamel’.

Dental implants Overseas

overseas dental packages 7We have literally done hundreds of successful tooth implants, so if you’re looking for overseas dental packages that include implants, you needn’t look any further, or be concerned. Much like hair implants, tooth implants replace gaps in your mouth with new ‘real’ teeth.

We do this by first putting a structure in place in the jaw which will function as the ‘root’ to anchor your new ‘tooth’. Almost all patients find that not only do implants function better than dentures, they also restore confidence to a much higher degree.

Teeth whitening Overseas

Tooth bleaching is one of the less invasive aesthetic dentistry procedures, but the impact can be huge. Don’t overlook this procedure when booking your overseas dental packages. As always at our clinic we use only the finest in safe and tested first-rate procedures and technology to make sure our valued patients leave all smiles! For your safety and for best results, we recommend coming in for teeth cleaning before embarking on teeth whitening. This ensures greater accuracy during the whitening procedure, and helps to procure a longer lasting effect.

Best Dental Implants Abroad

You’ve landed on the right page if you’re looking for the best dental implants abroad.

Best Dental Implants abroadSouth Africa is highly rated as a world-class cosmetic tourism destination, and not for trifling reason either: sun, surf or safari, you’ll find the best of it here, in superbly priced packages.

The favourable rand-dollar exchange for foreigners has meant that the upward trajectory in inbound tourism to this beautiful country has only intensified. Throw in pioneering medical practices – the world’s first heart transplant, for example − and it’s little wonder the country is renowned for its highly calibrated medical treatments, too.

Things are no different at our Silver Oaks dental clinic, we are at the forefront of medically advanced designer dentistry. One particular area of specialisation for us is dental implants. As local leaders in this field, you’ve landed on the right page if you’re looking for the best dental implants abroad.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are, in effect, ‘replacement’ teeth and the next best thing to the teeth you were born with. The process emulates that of a real tooth, unlike dentures or bridges which are artificially held in place.

You do not have to struggle like this nowadays. Dental Implants could help you with your chewing, stabilise your bite, correct your smile and generally boost your confidence and improve your life.

As per best practice worldwide and as your provider of the best dental implants abroad, we position metal ‘holders’ beneath your gums into the jawbone. As these metal holders eventually fuse with your jawbone, they act perfectly as new ‘roots’ for your tooth.

Types of dental implants

We provide ourselves on our claim of being the best dental implants abroad and, as such, we will only work with the two kinds of implants that have been cleared as medically safe:

1. Subperiosteal implants – We fit the metal teeth ‘holders’ beneath the gum, onto the jawbone. We then neatly fit your new teeth into these holders.

2. Endosteal implants – They are called implants, as we implant these straight into the jaw. Then, we allow the gum tissue to heal. Once this has been done, we connect a ‘holder’ or metal post to this implant, into which we’ll fit your new teeth.

As top practitioners of specialised cosmetic dentistry and providers of the best dental implants abroad, we will make a detailed assessment of your mouth before advocating any approach. Each patient’s needs are different and we won’t proceed without carefully examining which approach is best for you.

As responsible providers of the best dental implants abroad, we also advise our clients that in order to receive implants, you need to have a fairly strong, non-damaged jawbone and healthy gums. Of course, you will also need to maintain a good oral hygiene routine post this procedure, which is for life – this is one of the big advantages of opting for dental implants versus bridges or dentures.

Are dental implants more expensive than dentures or bridges?

Best dental implants abroad 4Yes and no. They are a bigger one-off financial outlay, but a smaller one over the period of the average patient’s life compared to other aids, devices and procedures.

In the short-term, that is to say, when looking at the cost of the procedure itself, it is fair to say that dental implants are more expensive than other tooth-replacement methods, such as opting to have dentures or bridges fitted.

However, we hasten to add that being the best dental implants abroad means that our implants are made, tailored and fitted to last – for life.

So, in the long-term, dental implants are going to cost you less than dentures, for which you’ll have to have a new mould made every three to ten years. The same is true of bridges – they need to be replaced with time. These costs accumulate and, with time, add up to more than having perfect implants fitted for life.

Advantages of dental implants

Besides the lowered costs and convenience over the average lifetime, there are many advantages. This is why, as providers of the best dental implants abroad, we are seeing an uptake in not only local but also international clients choosing to have implants.

Dental implants are strong, stable and the best imitators of natural teeth. As experienced surgical and cosmetic implant surgeons, when providing you with the best dental implants abroad, we make sure that your tooth looks, feels and ‘works’ like a normal tooth.

There is no irritation or discomfort when eating, speaking or smiling as is sometimes the case with full or partial dentures, and bridges. No need to take out your dentures or adjust your bridge either – just carry on with your everyday activities and flash your perfect smile!

In addition to being one cost, dental implants are also a one-off procedure. The disadvantage of dentures is that however much precision goes into making them – and they are certainly not to be discounted as options – when refitting a new mould after several years, the patient’s gums need to re-adjust. This often leads to a short period of inconvenience and even mild pain.

As providers of the best dental implants abroad, we also like to advise our clients that dental implants fit the mould and aesthetics of your natural facial shape. Sometimes, denture-wearers have ‘sunken’ features such as cheeks or jawlines.

Whereas other tooth replacements often lead to face distortion over time, dental implants help you to retain the facial outlines you were naturally born with. Think about it – what happens at night if you wear dentures? You remove them. Dental implants stay firmly put in your mouth.

Protecting your jawline to keep it strong, healthy and optimally functioning is imperative to the general health of your mouth – and dental implants do just that.

As experienced implant surgeons who will fit the best dental implants abroad, we often point out to prospective patients that a cavity in your jawbone as a result of your tooth gap, will lead to your jawbone in this area becoming weaker and deteriorating over time.

The good news is, dental implants ‘kick-start’ new bone growth and bone generation. This helps to keep your jawbone firm, healthy and properly functioning. So go on – taste the fullness of life and get your confidence back with your dazzling, new dental implants!

How To Straighten Teeth Fast

The best way to straighten teeth fast is via a cosmetic dental procedure called clear aligner therapy.

An example would be brand names such as the Invisalign or the Inman Aligner. Our offices create the Inman Aligner at our labs so the cost to you is decreased tremendously as compared to Invisalign and other brand names that are out there.

Inman Aligner

The Inman Aligner is a perfect solution for overcrowding and crooked teeth. It is cheaper than the invisalign but straightens teeth in exactly the same manner. The Inman Aligner is another brand name for clear aligner therapy. It is a safe and cost efficient solution to straighten teeth in a short space of time. You only need to wear the Inman Aligner for 10 – 18 weeks in normal cases.

Your front teeth will be gently guided to an ideal position in a matter of weeks.

Another huge advantage of the Inman Aligner is that it is removable. So if you have an event to attend you can remove it. You can also wear it all day and nobody will notice that you have something in your mouth as it is clear.

The Inman Aligner has Nickel Titanium coil springs that power two aligner bows that gently oppose each other, guiding the teeth into their new position. These gentle forces are active over a very large range of movement, which is why the Inman Aligner works so quickly

Teeth Straightening

How long is the treatment with the Inman Aligner?

Most cases are completed within 6-18 weeks. Your Inman Aligner dentist will give you a realistic guide of what to expect. He will do this first by analysing your teeth and then sending of impressions to the orthodontic lab.

The lab will then give you a before and after scenario using prediction techniques on a computer. We will then show you the photos of what your potential treatment might look like with a quote. Once approved we can begin your treatment and set appointments up with Dr Richard Huson.

What’s involved in Treatment with the Inman Aligner?

• Impressions are needed so that the lab can fabricate your custom made Inman Aligner
• Initial fitting of the Aligner
• Wear the Aligner 16-20 hours a day
• Regular Inman checks every 2-3 weeks
• As with other orthodontic treatment, after treatment is completed with the Inman Aligner, retention is recommended or life to prevent relapse.
