Digital VS Traditional Impressions

In the 21st century with so many new advancements in dental technology, we can truly say that digitally taken impressions have made the biggest difference for many dentists and dental practices. This gives patients a more relaxed and less time consuming treatment at the dentist.

The traditional approach

For many patients having dental impressions done can be very unpleasant. Patients with a strong gag reflex struggle with the entire procedure. There’s nothing worse than those three to six painful minutes waiting for the “alginate rubber material” (gooey substances) to set. For many decades traditional impressions were needed for crowns, bridges, veneers, bleaching trays, and not forgetting night guards.traditional impression

Digital impressions using an IOS scanner

Digital impressions are taken with an intraoral scanner (IOS) using optical light technology as its source to scan the soft and hard tissue within the mouth.  The IOS scanner digitally captures clear and highly accurate impressions within seconds. With a digital scanner, patients will not feel uncomfortable and have a gagging reflex or throw up when impressions are being taken.

  • Patients save time in chair with their dentist as they do not need to wait for the alginate substance to take form or set.
  • While scanning we can immediately find errors or missed areas.
  • Digital impressions can be stored electronically which contributes to our recordkeeping and the POPI act.
  • Much more accurate than conventional impressions

Composite Veneers VS Porcelain Veneers

The availability, affordability, and effectiveness of composite veneers and porcelain veneers make them a highly sought-after treatment. Not sure which option would be best for you? Learn how to choose between them.

Which Option is Best for You?

Patients often ask this question and the only way to know which treatment will be best for your smile is to schedule a consultation with your dentists. Not sure which option would be best for you? Learn how to choose between them.

Composite veneers (dental bonding) are a great option and a good transition to porcelain veneers someday. While porcelain veneers might seem like the perfect fit for anyone that wants to improve their smiles, it isn’t always right for everyone. Composite veneers can quickly and painlessly repair imperfections of your teeth, instantly delivering your perfect smile. Some patients are hesitant to permanently alter the structure of their teeth, so they opt for composite veneers as a conservative alternative.

Should I Choose Porcelain Veneers or Composite Veneers?

When choosing between porcelain veneers and composite veneers we always give patients as much information as we can so they can make an informed decision that is right for their oral goals and budget.

Cost:
Porcelain veneers are usually cost much more than composite veneers. Finding the right solution for a patient’s needs and budget can be difficult but not impossible. Composite veneers are a more cost-effective treatment when compared to porcelain veneers. Should you have budget constraints but still want to achieve a more aesthetically looking smile.

Application process:
Porcelain veneers require multiple dental visits, try in’s and temps, there’s plenty of planning for treatment, and are manufactured at our onsite laboratory. Composite veneers can be completed in a single visit. Your dentist will match an exact shade of resin and mold and contour the resin before curing it on the tooth to complete the treatment within a single visit.

Appearance:
Both porcelain veneers and composite veneers are made to blend in with the colour of your surrounding teeth. Veneers can change your teeth’s shape appearance, and look completely. While composite veneers can fix dental issues like decayed, chipped, fractured teeth and keep your most natural smile.

Durability:
Porcelain veneers are made for permanence, lasting 10 to 25 years. While they are not invincible, porcelain is more durable. Keeping regular checks can help prolong its life span. Composite veneers are still a strong material that can last you up to 2 -4 years. Keeping regular dental visits can help prolong its life.

Teeth Implant Cost in South Africa

What do teeth implants cost in South Africa?

Teeth implants and veneers – what are they, what do teeth implants cost in South Africa and what are the alternatives?
Accidents happen. Decay happens and unfortunately, when it happens in your mouth, you can’t hide it – unless you prefer to look mean in interviews because you never smile or speak with your hand in front of your mouth. Not good options! Dental implants, on the hand, are.

One of the questions most patients want to be answered upfront is: What do teeth implants cost in South Africa? This is a legitimate question. We encourage all our patients to be open and upfront as the cost is one of the factors influencing the type of tooth replacement procedure. It is not an easy question to answer though, as the procedure requires special steps, materials, equipment, and human resources besides just the dental surgeon. Prices start from around R8 000 per implant placement. We will return to the factors that influence what teeth implants cost in South Africa later.

We will also look at another popular treatment at our offices – pearly white veneers that totally transform your smile. At Silver Oaks Dental Clinic, we are have seen an exponential increase in requests for veneers in South Africa, from both local and foreign patients.

What are dental implants?
They are metal holders, posts, or frames that are surgically inserted beneath the gums, into the jawbone. These implants act as replacement ‘roots’ to hold or anchor the new tooth that will be formed. In the long run, the implants fuse to the jawbone. As a result, they provide a much more stable base for a replacement tooth. Dentures and bridges remain good options but for ease of convenience, teeth implants are tops.
Are there any barriers to receiving a dental implant?
Yes, there can be. These barriers are not insurmountable though – they simply mean that there will be more steps to the procedure.

The most important requirement is that a potential tooth implant recipient has a disease-free gum line and a healthy jawbone. If not, a bone graft could be required first. This is certainly one of the factors affecting what teeth implants cost in South Africa. There could be another issue in the form of bone height. This needs to be assessed when a tooth implant in the upper jaw is required.

If the upper jaw is too close to the sinuses, a sinus lift may be required. This is another factor impacting costs.
Other factors affecting what teeth implants cost in South Africa. What else besides a bone graft or sinus lift will typically affect your teeth implant cost in South Africa – or anywhere, really?

Here are the main ones:
1. The number of implants. Implants are usually charged per tooth.
2. The materials being used. Usually, these are titanium or titanium alloy. As a dentist, we have to use biocompatible materials that will be well-received by your jawbone and won’t cause any allergies.
3. X-Rays and other mouth scans. These are performed before we proceed so we can be aware of any potential complications that may arise during surgery. It also helps us assess the bone density and health of your jawbone.
4. Location. If you have your implants done in the most expensive cities in the world, one of the big costs that have to be absorbed is renting office space. Just like with other retailers, these and other costs are factored into the costs of treatment procedures themselves.
5. Your dental surgeon’s experience and qualifications. It is true that you get what you pay for! You wouldn’t want a rookie dental surgeon or dentist not specialized in surgery to operate on your mouth. Yet, unfortunately, that is what some people still opt for as it is ‘cheaper’. In the long run, it is more expensive, as you’ll likely need a surgeon to correct technical issues relating to the implant.
Teeth implant costs at Silver Oaks.

We try to keep costs as affordable as possible, without sacrificing expertise, the comfort of patients, or the quality of the results. Costs are about R8 000 per implant, but again, that is a very generic figure as it depends on the manufacturer you choose. All our manufacturers are internationally recognized and meet European Standards.

Getting veneers in South Africa
Your smile definitely is worth a thousand words – let’s just hope they’re words of admiration and not anything else! When fitting veneers in South Africa, the procedures are exactly the same as overseas. In fact, we pride ourselves on using cutting-edge, approved technology and practices to such an extent that we’ve often innovated with better, newer treatments or procedures long before they’ve become mainstream.

We have built up our leading reputation over many years of study, overseas experience, and the best of local experience. As a result, we take maintaining the good regard for our work very seriously. We push ourselves by subscribing to the philosophy that we are only as good as the last procedure – this means excelling all the time, every time. And it means getting the best veneers in South Africa.

What are veneers?
Veneer treatments fall into the realm of cosmetic dentistry. They are thin white layers of porcelain designed to cover the front of your tooth. Veneers can greatly enhance appearance. Prices for dental veneers start from R12 605  per tooth.

Below are some of the examples of veneer smile makeovers at Silver Oaks Dental Clinic by Dr. Roy Richard Huson.
In what cases are veneers a good option?
We will not be able to offer you veneers if your tooth is damaged too badly. The remaining tooth needs to be sufficiently strong to have a veneer ‘glued’ on.

Veneers in South Africa are for you if:
● Your teeth are stained or discoloured
● Your teeth are ground down (but not too far down)
● Your teeth are chipped or damaged
● Your teeth do not have an even shape around the edges, have craters or bulge
● You have a gap between your teeth – we could then attach veneers that close the gap or align the teeth better.

We use the latest digital technology and have to outsource very little. We’re aware that most of our patients are time-scarce – and if you’re here on dental safari, you want to have enough time to enjoy your safari after all! So typically a veneer procedure takes three visits, but we are able to cut this down, depending on your needs and also the state of your ‘original’ teeth.

Speak to us so we can gladly assess and let you know. Although we are time-aware, we will never sacrifice client safety or the integrity of a procedure. We look forward to welcoming you and seeing you walk away with your new, perfect smile!

Chipped, broken, stained and misaligned teeth?

Chipped, broken, stained and misaligned teeth?

Dental veneers might be the answer….

Most of us suffer from imperfections on our teeth such as chipped, cracked, stained, and crooked teeth. At one-point dental veneers were only for movie stars. Now it is available to all.

Dental veneers are the same as natural teeth in form and function. Porcelain veneers try to replicate the look and feel of our natural teeth. You can bite and chew your food as normal and they won’t ever fall out. Porcelain veneers can last a lifetime if you brush and floss regularly (2x a day).

Chipped, broken, stained and misaligned teeth

What are dental veneers?

Veneers are thin layers of composite or porcelain that are placed over the tooth’s surface. Porcelain veneers is the best option of the two as they look natural like your real teeth.

what are dental veneers

What can dental veneers fix?

If your natural tooth or teeth are not severely decayed or missing, then dental veneers or crowns can be a good long-term option. Dental veneers are the only treatment available that can physically change the shape, size and colour of your teeth.

The following are common conditions that can benefit from dental veneers:

  • Broken teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Cracked teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Discoloured teeth
  • Undesirably large or small teeth for example, correcting a gummy smile

The veneer process takes just 2-3 visits and can be completed in about 2 weeks or less. This is a much shorter time frame than some other dental treatments like orthodontics which could take up to 2 years.

Chipped, broken, stained and misaligned teeth

The above patient Charmaine visited Silver Oaks Dental Clinic for a full smile makeover. She had previously decayed teeth, tooth loss, teeth protrusion and some of her teeth had the old amalgam fillings. Her heart health was at risk due to the state of her teeth.

Dr Huson’s solution for Charmaine’s teeth included dental crowns and dental veneers. Digital Smile Design and the latest technology was used to craft Charmaine’s smile and simulations offered to her to show her what her potential teeth could look like.

Charmaine was extremely happy with the outcome. She was amazed by her new smile and could not stop smiling from ear to ear!

It was such a pleasure to work with Charmaine – she was a delightful lady who enjoyed telling us a new joke at every visit ! This kept us in stitches as we tried to concentrate on our work..

How To Fix The Gaps Between Your Teeth

We get asked this question often at Silver Oaks Dental Clinic ‘How to fix the gaps between my teeth’.

If the gaps between your teeth are making you feel self-conscious then you might want to try and find ways to fix them. Some procedures are cost effective and less time consuming. We discuss them in this article.

Before we get into the details it is important to understand what causes the gaps between your teeth.

gaps between teeth

Gapped teeth which are also called Diastemas are one of the most common dental issues and can result from several issues.

Disproportionality sized teeth – gaps occur when your teeth are smaller than the size of your jawbone.
Oversized tissue between your front teeth called the Labial Frenum prevents your gap from closing. The tissue gets in between your front teeth and prevents your teeth from fusing together.
Thumb sucking – the sucking motion can force your teeth forward creating a gap.
Gum disease – Gapped teeth can also be caused by gum disease. The infection can cause gums and soft tissues supporting your teeth to become damaged.

How do i fix the gaps between my teeth Doctor?

You will need a thorough analysis by your dentist. He/she will need to take an x-ray and analyse your teeth. Your dentist will then come up with the best solution according to your individual needs.

The three options that are available in order to fix the gap between your teeth are, orthodontic braces, dental veneers and dental implants.

Orthodontic braces might be an option depending on the size of the gap. Many people do not like the look of metal braces and the fact that you must wear them for 2-3 years.

There are two other options that you can discuss with your dentist that is a great alternative to metal braces.

Dental veneers are usually the best option. It is a quick procedure usually 2-3 appointments.
Dental veneers are thin, tooth coloured shells that are attached to the front surface of the teeth to improve the appearance. Porcelain veneers are usually the best quality as they look and feel just like your natural teeth.

If you have exceptionally large gaps, then dental implants could be another option. Chat to your dentist and he will be able to offer the best advice.

How To Fix The Gaps Between Your Teeth 2fixing the gaps between your teeth 3A recent patient (above) at Silver Oaks Dental wanted to fix the gaps between her teeth. Her main complaint was that she had gaps, chips and some worn down teeth. They were also stained and discolored.

Patient’s front teeth had a gap in between and made her very shy to smile

She came to us with the hope that Dr Huson could help her regain that confidence she had almost lost growing up.

Veneers came to be the best option to fix Keisha’s smile. Not only did veneers close her gaps but it also straightened and whitened her teeth in few easy steps! Porcelain veneers are resistant to staining and mainly used by Dr Huson because of its high durability.

After a hygienist’s cleaning, we made bleaching trays for her upper and lower jaw to whiten it to her desired shade. She wore this for 14 days at home and came in for an hour laser to enhance and brighten her teeth before we started with the designing.

We used the latest in digital technology to design her teeth called Digital Smile Design

Dr Roy -Richard Huson examined her mouth and face and to determine the right fit size and shape of her veneers. We used Digital Smile Designing (DSD) technology and photographs to design the perfect smile for her. Computer imaging and photographic technology will allowed her to visualise her smile before it is even finished!

We made four upper veneers which closed the gaps instantly. She came in to try on her veneers first so that her friends and family could approve and for her to feel and experience the look before we do the finals.

Once she was happy with it, she came in to cement the finals. Her smile is straight without any gaps, brighter and all the chips and cracks restored.

It did not take Kershia long to get used to her new smile because she instantly loved it! She is incredibly happy with the outcome of her veneers. She feels more confident with her fuller teeth and her friends and family love her new look.

We are very thankful we had the opportunity to make a difference in Kershia’s life.

3 Quick Ways to Improve Your Smile 2

Dental Implants are the closest you can get to healthy teeth. They replace missing teeth permanently.

Dental implants act as a natural tooth (root being the implant) the tooth being the crown. In addition, you can laugh, smile, eat, chew and talk again.  Dental implants act like artificial tooth roots.

When dental implants are placed in your jawbone they bond with your natural bone. They are the strongest devices to replace missing teeth. They allow these teeth to feel, look and function like your natural teeth.

Implants are highly recommended by many dental associations as they keep the bone in your jaw healthy. Dental implants are one of the 3 quick ways to improve your smile.

Dental Veneers improve the appearance of your teeth

3 Quick Ways to Improve Your Smile

Veneers are thin covers placed over your teeth. They integrate naturally with your real teeth and therefore are a popular choice as dental veneers improve the appearance of your teeth.

If you have the following problems with your teeth then dental veneers might be an option:

  1. teeth that are stained and can’t be whitened by bleaching.
  2. chipped or worn teeth.
  3. crooked or misshapen teeth.
  4. uneven spaces or a large gap between the upper front teeth.

You can straighten and whiten your teeth quickly with veneers. It is quicker than having braces. It is also a more cost effective option.

Dental veneers are either made from porcelain or composite resin. Your dentist is the best person to decide on the material that will work for you.

Each type of veneer has its own benefits. For example, Porcelain veneers are strong and long lasting. They are more natural looking, and they do not stain easily. Composite veneers cost less. They are not as natural looking as porcelain veneers. Dental veneers are one of the 3 quick ways to improve your smile.

Teeth Whitening improves first impressions

teeth whitening improves first impressions

Teeth whitening is the most basic cosmetic procedure that almost everyone is doing today.

It is quick and easy and provides a more hygienic, precise look. Teeth whitening is usually done if you have badly stained teeth.

Stains could be caused for several reasons such as antibiotic use or eating teeth staining foods such as red wine, curry etc. A dental cleaning must be carried out first in order to remove debris, plaque etc and then the dental cleaning allows the teeth to take and adhere to your natural teeth.

Your teeth can be whitened up to 8 or 9 shades by a dentist because he is the only person who can do a safe and effective job when it comes to teeth whitening.

Straighten Teeth Without Braces

Due to the recent technological advancements,  you can now straighten your teeth without braces.

You can now straighten your teeth without braces in less than 4 months on average. It is more cost effective than braces and saves one the hassle and embarrassment of the metal braces showing in your mouth.

We have the latest technology in Cosmetic Dentistry

We use the latest technology called Digital Smile Design.

Dr Huson spends a lot of his time updating his qualifications and going on several courses on Digital Dentistry regularly.

Dr Huson has worked in the Harley Street Region of London in the UK where he dealt with many international clientele and perfected the art of shaping and making teeth look as natural and straight as possible.

We also have an in house lab that helps with designing your teeth so that you can straighten your teeth without braces quickly.

straighten teeth without braces 1

straighten teeth without braces 2

There are three methods in order to straighten your teeth without braces

The first method is Dental veneers

This is the quickest method as it can take less than 3 weeks to get done. So if you have less time on your hands and would like to straighten your teeth quickly then veneers is the way to go.

The second method is clear braces (Inman Aligner or Invisalign)

This might take around 9 to 12 weeks or more for normal procedures and visits every 2 weeks to the dentist to tighten the mouth guard.

This is also a quicker solution to straighten your teeth rather than traditional braces. Although the disadvantage is that it takes longer than dental veneers to get your teeth straightened. It is also more time consuming with additional visits to the dentist.

When the dentist analyses your teeth he needs to see if this procedure can be done on your teeth. This procedure can only straighten your teeth and not correct a strong overbite.

The third method is traditional braces

This method is the most costly method and you will most probably need to wear braces for over 2 years in order to get your teeth straightened. The look with metal braces in your mouth is also NOT aesthetically pleasing. You will need traditional braces if you have a strong overbite. You will need a dentist to analyse your teeth and give you the best recommendation.

The fastest and most cost effective method  to straighten your teeth without braces is Dental Veneers.

However, you still need to chat to your dentist and see if this solution will work for you.

straighten teeth 2

Below is a method of both dental veneers and the clear aligner that was used on a recent patient @silveroaksdentalclinic.

When Sinothando came to us she wanted a quick solution to her long term problem . She wanted to reduce the gaps between her teeth and get them straightened without any long procedures such as braces.

She also had peg laterals. In dentistry this refers to an anomaly affecting her lateral teeth (Upper second Incisors) causing her teeth to look abnormally small and cone shaped compared to being rectangular in shape.

The solution for sinothando was simple orthodontics to pull the two front teeth together thereby straightening them without braces.

Veneers were made to reshape the lateral teeth, again it was a solution to straighten teeth without braces.

She also had minimal surgery called a Frenectomy to relax the muscle in her upper lip which causes the formation of the huge gap in the middle of her teeth.

The biggest advantage of Sinothando’s procedure is that she didn’t lose any tooth structure. Sinothando loves her new teeth and loves to take photographs of herself showing of her new look. Her family say it has made her look more sophisticated and neat. We are very happy that we have helped her regain her confidence.

Medical and Dental Tourism in South Africa

Medical and dental tourism in South Africa is growing exponentially. Mainly due to the advancement in medical infrastructure and the exchange rate.

Thanks to South Africa’s leading position as a global medical and dental tourism destination, medical tourism is one of the fastest growing – and therefore most important and priority-worthy sub-sectors of South Africa’s already booming tourism industry.

This is according to South African Tourism, who notes that the potential for this sector to grow is significant, sensational and still ‘untapped’ despite ferocious and phenomenal growth in the last few years.

At Silver Oaks Dental Clinic we have certainly seen the effects of this growth. Because we partner with several safari and similar providers, we are able to help you with a full-service bouquet when it comes to your dental tourism needs in South Africa.

Medical and Dental Tourism in South Africa 5

Medical and dental tourism in South Africa has experienced and upward trajectory that exceeds the global year-on-year growth of 15%. By 2015, revenue from medical and dental spend from foreigners in South Africa had leapt from €39m (R582 million) to €64m (R961 million), and has long surpassed R150 million mark.

Tourists from Europe, other African countries and Australasia account for the big jump in revenue and medical tourist numbers for the most part. Dental tourism in South Africa as a stand-alone subsector stands almost shoulder-to-shoulder with medical tourism as a sub-sector.

Medical and Dental Tourism in South Africa 3

What makes South Africa such an tour de force in medical tourism globally?

Research by a tourism specialist department in FNB, one of the big five retail banks in South Africa and frequent winner of global banking accolades for its world-leading electronic banking engineering and breakthroughs, ascribes the country’s leading position in worldwide medical tourism to the following factors:

South African medical and dental qualification, training and professional body admission standards are on a par with, and in some cases higher and more stringent, than in foreign countries. As a result, South African dentists and doctors are sought after in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand in particular.

The South African currency means foreigners get exceedingly good value for their medical and dental procedures, while the integrity of adherence to the best of global standards remains in place

The country has great infrastructure. Whether by road or air, the infrastructure is mostly well-maintained and sign posted. The urban metropolises are modern, vibrant and international with a uniquely South African flavour.

The food and amenities on offer in general are highly palatable and pleasing to international travellers.
There is an abundance of sightseeing options and experiences.

Access to neighbouring countries such as Mozambique, Botswana and Namibia is quick and effortless, and under two hours away by plane depending where in South Africa travellers find themselves.

English is widely spoken and understood everywhere, as are foreign accents. This is critical when travellers undertake dental tourism in South Africa. There are 11 official languages but English is the language of commerce, work and parliamentary proceedings.

Medical technology is on a par with what can be found in the rest of the world. South Africa is no stranger to medical innovation either, with Dr Chris Barnard having pioneered the first heart transplant in Cape Town’s Groote Schuur Hospital.

Medical and Dental Tourism in South Africa

The impact of dental tourism in South Africa

South African Tourism takes medical as well as dental tourism extremely seriously because of what it is already contributing to the local economy, what vast potential it still has and the treacle down effect to the rest of the tourism industry.

Figures show that the average medical tourist spends an average of 6 days in South Africa.

As a result, there are numerous gains for many tourism and tourism-related touchpoints. This means revenue traction for formal and informal tour operators, the hospitality industry and accommodation services, retail, safari and environmental attractions, the transport sector, food, catering and beverage services, and spas and wellness centres.

  • Reminding all stakeholders that the success of medical and dental tourism in South Africa rests on the exchange rate, and that pricing structures have to remain competitive.
  • Engaging all stakeholders to keep the quality of services at international standard or higher.
Diversifying procedures, in tandem with medical care and hospitality services offered to potential medical tourists
  • Getting the medical, dental and tourism spheres to form an even more tight-knit triad as partners who work together to offer a premier, effortlessly integrated offering to travellers from abroad.
  • Advising allied businesses how to diversify their product offering so that it benefits their bottom line while still representing value to tourists, with whom they may otherwise not engage economically.

As a medical tourist destination, South Africa has it all

The spas and wellness centres combine healing techniques from around the world. Whether it’s tai chi or traditional western therapies those coming for dental tourism in South Africa are seeking, they’ll be sure to find it.

There is no shortage of extreme adventure either. From white water rafting to ziplining, skydiving and the world’s highest bridge bungee jump, microlighting and more, there is ample adventure to get that adrenaline pumping.

On the shopping front, locally made high-end fashion and the like is well made and reasonably priced compared to overseas. Most international designer lines are available here too, sometimes at a cheaper price. Duty-free shopping has the most to offer the international traveller.

As for wildlife and safari’s, the country is home to the Big 5. Besides lion, cheetahs, leopards, elephants and hippos, there are incredible and rare game and bird species at many sights.

The natural splendour of the country is also unrivalled. From majestic Table Mountain and the winelands in Cape Town, the garden route along the east coast, Durban and KwaZulu-Natal’s tropical paradise-like havens and lush lowlands and highlands to the starkly beautiful Karoo and eastern Free State.

A Case Study on a Patient from New Zealand

This article discusses a case study on a patient from New Zealand.

A sweet patient (Miles) came all the way from New Zealand to perfect his smile at Silver Oaks Dental Clinic.

A case study on a patient from New Zealand

Miles was embarrassed to smile and had limited time in South Africa. Dr Huson had to find a quick fix solution.

Dr Huson placed dental veneers on Mile’s teeth.

Porcelain veneers are ideal for patients who have discoloured, uneven, irregularly shaped, worn down, chipped, gaps and misaligned teeth. We had lengthened Miles’s teeth and straightened the four front teeth with dental veneers.

He also completed the teeth whitening treatment to brighten the appearance of all of his teeth. This helped create a more consistent natural colour throughout.

We use the highest quality in Porcelain veneers  therefore prefer Emax veneers above Lumineers and composite veneers as the look and feel is more realistic and aesthetically pleasing.

We also find that they last a very long time over 25 years to a lifetime if they are properly cleaned and maintained.

Porcelain Veneers Procedure at Silver Oaks Dental Clinic

The benefit with veneers is that it whitens and straightens your teeth quickly and pain free. You only need three appointments.

Miles had looked through some pictures from the internet to see the look that he prefered.

He discussed the various options with Dr Huson. Dr Huson then designed his smile on the computer (Digital Smile Design) showing him before and after pics even before the treatment was started. went for something that made the appearance of his smile more apparent and face structure more prominent.

Our efficient lab technician Costa designed custom made temporary veneers which Miles wore it to see if he liked them. When Miles was happy with the temporary ones, we replicated that into the final permanent version.

Miles came back for another appointment where we fitted and cemented the veneers using a resin cement. His teeth were prepared using custom made templates which ensured the minimal amount of tooth loss.

Miles was very happy with the results and the transformation was dramatic and immediate. That is the huge benefit of Veneers in that it is quick and cost effective. Dental veneers don’t require months of adjustment appointments. The entire process took 3 visits.

Dr Huson has placed in excess 1000 Veneers and has worked under celebrity dentist Dr Joe Oliver in the Harley Street region of London. You are guaranteed work that is of the highest quality. Whether you have gaps, overcrowded, deep stained or misshapen teeth, Dental Veneers can be an excellent and conservative way of correcting your smile.

Dentistry and Dental Costs in South Africa

Expect world-class dentistry at a fraction of the cost in South Africa. Dentistry and dental costs in South Africa are value for money compared to the rest of the world. We have excellent medical infrastructure at almost half the price.

There are two regulatory bodies – the South African Dental Association (SADA) and the Dental Therapy Association of South Africa. These bodies are part of the World Health Organisation so that South Africa stays abreast with top standards on oral hygiene and surgery.

Because of a favourable exchange rate making dentals costs in South Africa very affordable.

Dental tourism has grown exponentially in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.

It is estimated that dental costs in South Africa for world-class procedures are one-tenth to one-sixth less expensive than in Europe, Australia or the United States. Most of our patients at Silver Oaks Dental Clinic come from countries such as the USA, UK, Germany, France, Australia and Canada.

SADA (South African Dental Association) is extremely well regulated and  governs dentistry in South Africa as well as matters pertaining to dental costs in South Africa.

It’s core functions are:

1. Communication –  Members are kept up-to-date with seminars, dental education, jobs calendar events and more. It also keeps open the lines of communication between the public and the dental body

2. Intellectual input –  It assists the profession to be NHI-ready – dental care at government grassroots levels are not as high as in the public sector due to a lack of funding, but is considerably higher than at the same level in other countries. The adoption of an NHI-like system is being mooted for a phased roll-out. It will essentially mean that private dentists will have to provide subsidised care to those within a certain radius who cannot afford it.

It has been argued that this will raise private dental costs in South Africa. It is not foreseen though that costs will ever rise so sharply as to affect dental tourism. It will not phase out private care. Other roles here include monitoring statutory gazettes and circulars, submitting SADA input to government and briefing dentists, and bringing dentistry into industry debates and meetings.

3. Regulating private and public cover – Again, this has implications for dental costs in South Africa. Private care cannot become a law unto itself. The standards, equipment and techniques are superb and dentists deserve great rates. But if left unchecked, as with any industry, the costs could spiral to such an extent that even medical aids or medical insurance would not be able to keep up. The role here is advisory more than regulatory, with legal input also given.

4. Advocacy and representation – SADA puts the democratically reached opinions of members to government bodies, NGOs, the public, organisations and agencies. It gives dentists a united voice in influencing public policy, and formulating and promoting sound National Oral Health Policy.

5. Legal and ethical advice  –  Members are kept up-to-date with health-related regulations and other important legal and ethical matters

6. Public awareness –  SADA helps drive awareness of dentistry in South Africa and abroad. Locally, the public is encourage to treat dental care as they would care for the rest of their body, and to get checkups regularly. The public is made aware of how the industry subscribes to only the highest standards of excellence.

7. Education – SADA oversees educational grants, webinars, workshops, further training and a fully accredited scientific dental journal, the SA Dental Journal.

dentistry and dental costs in south africa

Dental procedures and practices offered in South Africa

You can get any routine, orthodontic, paediatric, surgical or cosmetic dental procedure in South Africa that you could anywhere else in the world. When it comes to cosmetic dentistry in South Africa, the biggest demand from a tourism point of view is for veneers and smile makeovers and dental implants.

You cannot buy any illegal dental services in South Africa. The industry is tightly regulated.

Dental Tourism in South Africa works both ways

There are over 4 500 registered dentists in South Africa who are able to cater to the needs of the ever-expanding dental tourism industry, so there is no skills shortage. South Africa has become a preferred dental tourism provider because patients who may have gone elsewhere for cheaper dentistry, found that there were risks involved.

These are

● Bleeding gums
● Loose implants
● Ulcers
● Cysts
● Infections

In the long run, these risks can erase any cost savings. However, the standards of dentistry in South Africa along with the affordable costs of dentistry in South Africa have remained in tact. There have been no reported cases of medical tourism ‘fails’ in this country. Practitioners know that should something like that happen, they would be struck off the roll. It would affect their livelihoods permanently.

State of the art medical care received in most of the country includes:

Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC)
The Wand – a pain-free, scientifically computed anesthetic injection system.

Becoming a dentist in South Africa is difficult

It’s not surprising that standards of excellence pervade – the route to becoming a dentist in South Africa is tough and a five-year degree minimum is required. Training and further exams and board exams are required, depending on the speciality chosen. Also, as per SADA, all members are required to undergo continuous learning and upskilling.

This has also made local dentists incredibly valuable abroad, with many having been actively recruited by European countries in the past, after passing relevant foreign board exams. This means dental tourism works both ways with local dentists leaving to solidify experience abroad or being actively lured into short-term or other contracts abroad.

Dr Roy Huson has worked in the UK under celebrity dentist Dr Joe Oliver. His skills and qualifications set him apart.

So good is the reputation of dentistry in South Africa, that most medical aid insurers operating in the dental tourism field are happy to cover in whole or in part dental costs in South Africa. You can enjoy your dental experience in South Africa without fear or hesitation in comfort and privacy. The country is a haven of modern facilities, safari and other adventure or holiday experiences, and no communication barrier exists.

Prices for dental implants start from R12 000 implant placement and can go up to R44 000 per tooth

Prices for dental crowns/dental veneers start from R12 605

Porcelain Veneers in South Africa

Veneers are ‘teeth’ made we make to emulate each patient’s natural teeth. If you’re looking for for porcelain veneers in South Africa, we’d love to be your dental service provider. Veneers look real and are for you if you have chipped, cracked, crooked or damaged teeth, or if you’re looking to close a gap between your teeth.

Sometimes, teeth also do not respond properly to teeth whitening procedures. You could consider fitting veneers instead.

We have a superb track record of fitting porcelain veneers in South Africa. We use a dental glue to apply the new layer of tooth to the front and back of your original teeth. The result is life-like tooth exteriors or veneers that enhance your smile in a way that’s not forced or artificial.

A Dental Consultation with Silver Oaks Dental Clinic

As with all cosmetic dentistry procedures, we’ll begin with a consultation. Tell us what exactly is bugging you so we can be sure veneers are the correct and best option. The better we understand your desired outcomes, the better we can align expectations to actual results at the end of the day.

It is not all that useful to want to emulate a certain celebrity’s smile. Each person’s mouth is different. We also have to make sure that your underlying tooth is healthy and capable of having thin layers of porcelain bonded to it.

During this consultation for your porcelain veneers in South Africa, we’ll begin with a smile analysis. From this, we can map the steps we’d like to follow in fitting your veneers. Then we’ll proceed to do cosmetic imaging, so we can project your new smile onto you. In other words, we can show you what you’ll look like with your new smile before you actually proceed.

How porcelain veneers are made

Several thin ceramic layers are compressed and compiled which replace your original tooth enamel. Before we can apply your veneer, we need to remove a thin layer of your tooth enamel. This is so it fits on your tooth exactly without protruding and irritating your gum line. Not placing an exact fit will also affect tooth function.

When fitting your porcelain veneers in South Africa, we use an industry best bond. This bond is critical to ensure your veneer stays in place. We’ll place light-sensitive resin between your original tooth and the veneer, and then harden it with a UV curing light.

It is important to remember that veneers are not reversible. They can be adjusted and new ones can be fitted, but you can never quite return to your original tooth.

No-prep veneers

When you come to us for your porcelain veneers in South Africa, it may be that you’re looking for minimal preparation veneers. As always, we will assess whether this is a viable option for you before proceeding. Many people are tempted to go the no-prep route by default, but we always have to consider the long-term effect of any treatment on our patient. This is especially true of medical tourist patients, who may not be able to return to us specifically for interval check-ups.

With no-prep veneers, we don’t have to remove as much enamel from the front of your teeth. This means that veneers can often be fitted quicker and with less ‘down’ time.

Maintaining your dental veneers

Veneer aftercare is important. Brush and floss them as you would your natural teeth. We suggest using a toothpaste that is not gritty or too abrasive chemically.

We need a follow-up consultation with you after the procedure – come back to us after a few days on your leisure break. We need to see how your mouth is handing the new ‘intruder’ and may recommend a night guard if, for example, we feel that you are biting your teeth.

Make sure to return to your own dentist to properly look after the veneers. They should preferably be polished with a special paste so they remain in premium pearly white condition.

Dental Tourism

Your top surgeon and safari destination

South Africa has long held the title of best country for dental tourism, thanks to a superb medical practice and pioneering reputation, technological entrepreneurship and some of the finest tourism experiences the world has to offer.

At Silver Oaks, we are proud to be a standout surgeon and safari destination thanks to our time-compacting, cutting-edge technology, vast cosmetic dental experience both locally and abroad .

South Africa has left its medical mark on the world

Although the world first took notice when Christiaan Barnard performed the first heart transplant in the world at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town in 1967, this was not the last of the medical marvels to come from the world’s best country for dental tourism:
● In December 2014, urologist Andre van der Merwe and plastic surgeon Frank Graewe, both from South Africa, performed the world’s first successful penis transplant.
● South African-American virologist and physician Max Theiler developed a yellow fever vaccine in 1937, and this bagged him the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1951.
● In 1979, Allan McLeod Cormack and Godfrey Hounsfield were rewarded with the 1979 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work on X-ray computed tomography. This was the invention of the CAT scan.

Of course, South Africa as the best country for dental tourism has also been responsible for a slew of top technological innovations, with the following being a handful of highlights:

● In 1996, Vodacom was the first network to introduce prepaid airtime and debit the amounts in real time for customer accounts. This was a gamechanger in the mobile phone industry worldwide.
● The invention of the SASWITCH ATM machine was also a global gamechanger. For the first time, it allowed a banking card user to draw money from a machine not affiliated to his or her bank.
● In 1995, billionaire Mark Shuttleworth founded Thawte Consulting which revolutionised digital certificates and digital security. It was acquired by VeriSign in 1999 for $575 million in one of the biggest tech transactions of the time.
● TESLA founder and PayPal co-founder Elon Musk, who recently launched a TESLA Roadster into space, was born and schooled in South Africa.

South Africa is a safari leader

As for tourism itself, South Africa is a safari industry leader, and the best country for dental tourism in Africa and beyond. South Africa offers any kind of leisure experience you could want from unmatchable by-the-sea escapades, adventure and extreme adventure travel, cosmopolitan candy for the traveller and more.

Throw in a favourable rand-foreign currency exchange rate, and the finest of cosmetic dental treatments and Instagram-worthy holidays are available at highly affordable rates.

South Africa is officially recognised by the SADC as a leader in medical tourism, and the best best country for dental tourism. The best of healthcare facilities and vacations unrivalled anywhere in the world continue to draw health tourists to Silver Oaks from the US, Australia, Germany, Italy, Britain, Netherlands and other parts of Europe.

dental tourism 2

Why is SA regarded as the best country for dental tourism and medical vacations?

Some of the many reasons include

● Urban South Africa offers a modern and high-tech living, cosmopolitan, and medical experience for medical travellers.
● Medical tourists can expect to find highly trained doctors and dentists working in modern, accredited hospitals and clinics with cutting-edge equipment.
● Thanks to the weakness of the rand, hundreds of medical procedures are available at a comparatively low cost. Travellers pay roughly a third of the cost for an equivalent procedure in the UK.
● The natural beauty is unparalleled meaning recovery couldn’t be in more scenic conditions.
● There is no language barrier as English is widely spoken, and as a mother tongue in many instances.
● Travellers from Europe, the UK and Africa at large experience very little jetlag, making the journey to here a pleasant one.

A leading reputation as the best dental implants abroad

At Silver Oaks, we’ve cemented our place as the provider of the best dental implants abroad, thanks to the many word-of-mouth referrals from overseas customers and a unique money-back guarantee.

Dental implants – do you need them?

Dental implants are the closest thing to replacing your real teeth. They are not held in place, unlike dentures or bridges. We follow international best practice and place metal ‘holders’ beneath your gums into the jawbone. These holders fuse with your jawbone and become the ‘roots’ for your tooth.

Dental implants – two approaches

As the best dental implants abroad we will only work with world renowned manufacturers so that should you bite into anything hard and damage your implant the parts are then widely available and you dont have to place the dental implant from scratch again.

We do not proceed without assessing your jaw structure and needs, and discussing these with you. In some cases, we may advise on a different treatment such as a bridge, although this is the exception and we will only deviate from a treatment sought for very specific reasons.

What we do advise as responsible providers of the best dental implants abroad, is that implants are risky if your jawbone is brittle or damaged.

You need to have enough bone so that the implants last over 25 years. We will assess your teeth with a CT scan and make sure that you have enough bone and advise various options further.

Dental implants – advantages

● When providing you with the best dental implants abroad, we ensure that the end result looks, feels and functions like a natural tooth.
● You will not have to remove anything or make any adjustments when speaking, chewing or eating.
● This is a one-off procedure, so you may as well come on safari while you have the best dental implants abroad done. There are no post-operative adjustments or replacement needs every few short years.
● The implants will fit the shape of your face and you don’t have to worry about the likes of ‘dental pull’ on your cheeks.

We hope you will join the many who have had the best dental implants abroad fitted with us!

Overseas Dental Packages

Wear your winning smile with confidence

Overseas Dental Packages are much cheaper than dental packages in countries such as the US, Europe and Australia. You are able to go on safari and get your dental treatment done simultaneously if you choose South Africa as a destination.

Cosmetic dental packages are no longer thought of as an indulgence but something that’s almost a necessity.

Science has shown that when you can’t be all smiles, this severely impedes your confidence. It inhibits your ability to socialise – whether at work or at home – and can affect your very sense of well-being and belonging. Need to whiten your stained teeth, fill your gaps with implants or fix those chipped edges with veneers but worried about the cost?

Not only do we have a range of payment options that may suit your pocket and mitigate against forking out a one-off outlay, medical financing is also available. Many of our local patients go this route to cover the medical aid shortfall.

If you’re an overseas client though, our leading practice is ideal – we offer cutting-edge, money-back guaranteed overseas dental packages. Get the latest in global dentistry and dental technology at the hands of an incredibly experienced team at a fraction of the cost. The rand-dollar and rand-pound exchange is likely to put you in a position to afford treatment, even if you’d never considered going overseas for top dental treatments as an option before. Why continue to suffer in silence? Speak to us about our popular overseas dental packages.

World Renowned Expert

overseas dental packages

We pride ourselves on being a leading destination of choice for overseas dental packages. To this end, we use only the safest, best practice world-leading technology and procedures at our practice. Our leading dental surgeons have successfully performed hundreds of implants, veneer and teeth-whitening procedures.

Principal dentist Dr Roy Richard Huson earned his advanced dental stripes in a practice in Cambridge in the UK in 1996, after having graduated with a Bachelor’s in Dental Science from the University of Stellenbosch, a top-rated South African University. His academic endeavours didn’t end there though – subsequently he has gone on to attain post-graduate qualifications in specialised cosmetic dentistry in London. This is part of the reason we can say with confidence that our Silver Oaks practice represents one of the top overseas dental packages money can buy in terms of expertise, convenience and experience.

By 2008, thanks to the high regard for this work in Cambridge, Dr  Roy Richard Huson was invited to join one of the top cosmetic dental practices in the Harley Street area of London. It is this same practice which was home to popular BBC programme 10 Years Younger. Dr Roy Richard Huson returned to South Africa in 2010, where he now leads local innovation at his Silver Oaks practice.

We’re proud that our Silver Oaks practice is one of the few locally to offer advanced technological techniques such as digital dental imagery. Book your overseas dental packages knowing that we can show you the results of an elective treatment without so much as having to touch your mouth and gums, for added peace of mind. We are able to digitally scan in and project to you how your mouth, smile and jawline would look post-procedure.

Other advanced digital technologies used in our practice include CAD-CAM, a CEREC 3D laser scanner and an MXCL milling unit to create same-day smiles and crowns. Doctor Richard Huson  are members of various local and international dental councils, bodies, advisory boards and organisations.

Veneers Overseas

Overseas dental packages 6These are artificial ‘teeth’ which we make to resemble each patient’s natural teeth. If you’re looking for overseas dental packages for veneers, please consult us. Veneers are a realistic looking and marvelous solution for chipped, cracked, crooked or damage teeth, or if you’re looking to close a gap between your teeth. We’ve done hundreds of these procedures. A dental adhesive is used to apply the new layer of tooth to the front and back of your original teeth.

Inlays and Onlays Overseas

Inlays and Onlays are another dental procedure to consider when exploring overseas dental packages. These are a great alternative to fillings. Inlays, or inner ‘fillings’, are used when there is enough of the teeth cusp intact. If not, onlays are applied to the entire external surface of the tooth. Together, inlays and onlays prevent your teeth from any further damage. They are applied using an advanced dental ‘glue’.

Composite bonding Overseas

If you’re looking for overseas dental packages, this is one of the least expensive aesthetic procedures you can have done to your teeth to help with discolouration or damage. The decay and discolouration is removed from your teeth and in its place we fit the bonding, which resembles tooth enamel. We’ll then sculpt it into place and use light technology to whiten this new ‘enamel’.

Dental implants Overseas

overseas dental packages 7We have literally done hundreds of successful tooth implants, so if you’re looking for overseas dental packages that include implants, you needn’t look any further, or be concerned. Much like hair implants, tooth implants replace gaps in your mouth with new ‘real’ teeth.

We do this by first putting a structure in place in the jaw which will function as the ‘root’ to anchor your new ‘tooth’. Almost all patients find that not only do implants function better than dentures, they also restore confidence to a much higher degree.

Teeth whitening Overseas

Tooth bleaching is one of the less invasive aesthetic dentistry procedures, but the impact can be huge. Don’t overlook this procedure when booking your overseas dental packages. As always at our clinic we use only the finest in safe and tested first-rate procedures and technology to make sure our valued patients leave all smiles! For your safety and for best results, we recommend coming in for teeth cleaning before embarking on teeth whitening. This ensures greater accuracy during the whitening procedure, and helps to procure a longer lasting effect.

Dental Veneers On A Patient From Australia

Our article discusses a dental veneers procedure on a patient from Australia. Gemmah came all the way from Australia on a Yacht. She was doing a world tour and stopped at our offices in Durban, South Africa to get her dental treatment done.

Gemmah re-did her top four front teeth. She wanted to improve her confidence as she worked with international clientele on a luxury yacht.

Due to her work schedule she had limited time in South Africa. We carried out her smile makeover over a week.

Dr Huson’s solution for her top four front teeth were dental veneers.

Click on the video below to hear more about a dental veneers procedure on a patient from Australia.

dental veneers procedure on a patient from Australia

Dental Veneers Procedure

This first step involved Gemmah’s active participation. After Dr Huson analysed her teeth he went over possible options with regards to her desired look. She explained to Dr Huson the result that she wanted.

Photos and models of her teeth were then taken.

Teeth cleaning and teeth whitening were carried out.

Dr Huson then prepared her teeth for dental veneers. Guided templates and stents were used to ensure that the absolute minimal enamel was removed from Gemmah’s tooth surface. (Often as little as 0.1 millimeters or often none at all).

Dr Huson then removed any evidence of decay and carefully shaped the teeth to correct any chips or gaps. Before trimming of the enamel Dr Huson discussed the various pain free options with her. He made a model or impression of her teeth.

Temporary Veneers Were Custom Made

The model was then sent to our onsite lab technicians, who custom made the dental veneers. After a few days Gemmah came back to get the veneers fitted.

Dr Huson gave her temporary veneers. These temporary dental veneers match the planned final dental veneers. The reason why we do this is so you can see if you like the aesthetics of the dental veneers. You can also ask friends and family for their opinions before the final veneers are cemented.

Final Dental Veneers Placed

Gemmah came in again to our clinic where bonding was carried out before the dental veneers was permanently cemented to her teeth,

Slight adjustments were made at this stage because we have an onsite lab. Next, Dr Huson prepared the teeth to receive the veneers, the teeth were cleaned, polished, and etched — which roughens the teeth to allow for a strong bonding process.

A special cement was applied to the veneer and the veneer was then placed on her tooth. Once properly positioned on the tooth, Dr Huson applied a special light beam to the dental veneer, which activated chemicals in the cement, causing it to harden or cure very quickly.

The final steps involved removing any excess cement, evaluating Gemmah’s bite and making any final adjustments in the veneer as necessary. Gemmah came in for a final check to see if the veneers have taken to the teeth.

Treatment Was Completed In A Short Time

Many of our clients come from as far afield as the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, the UAE, the Netherlands, France, and Italy, to name but a few. It is often imperative that their treatment is completed in as short a time as possible. This can often mean that their dental work is completed in a single day or maximum a week if the case is more complicated.

Now you can get quick turnaround dental care. We offer a variety of effective cosmetic dentistry and general dental care solutions from our clinic in Musgrave, Durban, South Africa.

We have an excellent dental laboratory on-site with specialist technicians who work closely with us to make sure that your smile is perfect.

Dr Huson has over 20 years of experience and worked in the Harley Street Region of London under world renowned celebrity dentist Dr Joe Oliver.

Dental Veneers Pros and Cons

There are more pros than cons when it comes to getting dental veneers.

dental veneers pros and cons

Dental veneers are an excellent way to get rid of gaps, straighten and whiten your teeth all in one go. It can change your life and increase your confidence. As the saying goes the more you smile the more receptive you are to attracting a mate.

Smiling also activates the brain chemicals making you a happier person. You will need to carefully weigh out the pros and cons of the procedures before you decide to get them. Here are various factors to think about and discuss with your dentist

Dental veneers are thin pieces of tooth-colored porcelain cemented to the front surfaces of your natural teeth.

They are an easy way to address a variety of physical and aesthetic problems.

They’re also permanent so you’ll need to carefully weigh the pros and cons of the procedure before you decide to get them.

Pro #1: Easily Whitens Your Smile

Years of drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes or eating highly pigmented foods eventually take a toll on your teeth. Teeth turn into unattractive shade of yellow or brown. Stained enamel can be bleached at home or by your dentist, but it can become stained again.

If you’re looking for an easier way to whiten your smile for good, dental veneers may be a good fit for you. Veneers are largely stain-resistant.

According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), you won’t have to worry about discoloration or needing to have your veneers whitened.

Pro #2: Fix Gaps and Straightens Teeth

These problems can sometimes be helped with veneers. Veneers are attached to the front surfaces of your teeth – so although they don’t change their positions, they do camouflage minor orthodontic problems once they’re applied.

Your natural teeth may still be gapped or crooked, but nobody will know aside from you and your dentist.

It’s important to note that veneers can’t always replace orthodontic treatment. Your dentist may refer you to an orthodontist instead of placing veneers. It is best for you to speak to your dentist and have him analyse your teeth and come up with a solution.

Pro #3: Replaces Damaged Enamel

Enamel is strong, but not indestructible. Your enamel may still be worn down from overzealous tooth brushing or eaten away by highly acidic foods and drinks. The stomach acid associated with acid reflux disease can also damage your enamel. This can become a cause for concern, because lost enamel doesn’t grow back.

Fortunately, it can be replaced. Veneers are an excellent treatment for teeth with enamel abrasion or enamel erosion, according to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and are aesthetically pleasing at the same time.

Dental Veneers Cons

Con #1:An Irreversible Procedure

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are usually the more expensive option, but the transformative effect they can have on a person’s smile makes them well worth the investment. The treatment will involve four appointments, with the initial preparation work being done with Dr Huson and the creation of the veneers taking place at our in house lab.

They are created specifically for your unique set of teeth and will be custom tailored to your individual tooth colour and shape. They are resistant to staining and are the ideal solution to more severe discoloration, chips or cracks, and they generally last much longer than other types of veneers.

At Silver Oaks Dental Clinic we highly recommend porcelain veneers. It is the latest technology.

Below is a before and after pic of porcelain veneers. The results are remarkable and you can see how porcelain veneers straighten and whiten teeth all in one go. This is a far more cost effective method than braces and provides quick results usually 3-4 appointments over a short period of time. This can transform your life and dramatically improve your confidence. Research suggests that improving your teeth can make you look 10 years younger.

Composite Veneers

We try NOT to use composite veneers has it discolors over time and you can’t pre determine the shape and color. It is also NOT resistant to staining. The big downside from composite veneers is that the finish often isn’t as good as you would get from porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers gives of a more natural look.

Regular cleaning and polishing of your porcelain veneers will keep them looking great, and as long as your daily dental hygiene is good they should last a long time.
