Dental bleaching, also known as teeth whitening is a common procedure in general dentistry, but most especially in the field of cosmetic dentistry.
As you grow older the adult teeth often become darker in colour due to changes in the mineral structure of the tooth, Teeth can also become stained by bacterial pigments, foodstuffs and tobacco. Certain antibiotic medications can also cause teeth to stain. Dental bleaching can combat these changes in tooth colour and give you a more youthful looking smile. We offer our patients a two-stage "laser" whitening procedure to whiten teeth.
The procedure takes place over three appointments. The first appointment is to take impressions of your teeth (a cleaning is advised at this appointment), the second appointment will be to fit your specially designed bleaching trays to your mouth and explain to you how to use them. They will be worn for 14 nights. The last appointment is the "laser" light whitening appointment. Patients can maintain their bright smiles thereafter with their specially fitted dental trays and gels which we will supply to them.
In-office bleaching, which is applied by a dental professional in a controlled environment, is a safe and effective way to brighten your smile. It is always wise to consult your dentist or hygienist for a check up and cleaning prior to whitening your teeth. Talking to your dentist first is always your safest option. He or she can tell you whether whitening procedures would be safe and effective for your particular teeth.
